Customers say: Quality work

"Bobby and his crew did an excellent job of prepping our new driveway, pouring, sealing and clean up. Bobby is so kind and easy to work with. I had 7 companies come out to quote my job and as soon as I met Bobby, I knew he was the man I would hire. I am beyond pleased with his expertise, knowledge and service. I highly recommend him and will hire him for any future work."

"Mark Wheeler was the first of four companies to respond to our quote request and also provided the best pricing. While the others gave us start dates of a month to two months out, Wheeler and Son offered a start-time within a week or two. The crew arrived promptly on each day of the 3 day installation; as well as the fourth day for cleanup. The first day involved marking out the pattern for the driveway and, after getting the approval from us, excavating the old asphalt and additional area. On the second and third day the forms were set up, the base material was laid, and the concrete poured and finished. The fourth day is when the forms were removed and topsoil was replaced along the edges. We were impressed with the crew's efficiency, quality, and professionalism. Everyone knew what they were to do and the tasks for each stage proceeded like clockwork. We were more than satisfied with the results and would recommend Mark and the crew highly."

"After several quotes and researching companies online, I chose to hire Eli and his crew for my driveway project, adding onto an existing driveway. Eli was easy to work with, responded to my calls promptly, and answered all my questions thoroughly. Pricing was competitive and job was completed the next day of hiring them. Driveway looks beautiful! Would recommend!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
