"I recently purchased a home in bad need of tuckpointing.  When calling for quotes, Pat was the only one of four masons that I called who came out promptly for a quote.  His quote was reasonable, though not the lowest.  Because of the rainy spring, Pat was delayed from working on my home past his original estimated start date.  When he was able to start the work, however, the job turned out to be worse than he expected.  He had quoted me with the belief that about 10 -15 bricks would need to be removed.  It turned out to be about 40 bricks were removed. However, he repaired it correctly, and only asked if I could reimburse him for the extra materials - no extra labor charge, even though the scope of the repair had about tripled.  He also made suggestions of things I could do to help maintain chimney so problem did not reoccur.  He and his helper were polite and neat.  I would easily hire him again if I needed more masonry work."

"Since I signed the crontract in the winter, the inside work on the walls was done then.  The crew, Dan and company, worked a full week getting the outside job done right.  I could not be more pleased and happy with this companys work.  I was home for just about all of it and saw for myself.  They finished yesterday 5/12 and we had one of the heaviest rains I've seen in a long time that evening.  My basement, bone dry.  Before this work I would probably have been up a good part of the night vaccuuming the water.
Cleanup in the inside and outside was fantastic.  Great company, great crew.  Too bad there isn't anything more than an A+.  They deserve it.

"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"They did a great job on the foundation repair adding 8 push piers and successfully moving the foundation back into place. However, in their rush they put a hole in the back of my house with the backhoe and it took them almost 6 months to repair and repaint the damage. I still recommend them since they were the only ones with the correct foundation fix."

"Overall the work quality was good, but they made several mistakes, one being a rather spectacular aesthetic mistake, and the owner of the company refused to take responsibility for fixing these mistakes and wanted more money to fix it. A couple weeks later some of the bricks are falling offâ we will see if they come to fix itâ ¦"

Everyone we dealt with at all levels couldn't have been nicer. We have no problems with calling them for future needs as well as recommending them to others."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.

Europe is a continent made of many individual countries with a history of city life. In these cities, dirt roads were unsanitary and often shifted. The Ancient Romans started laying cobblestone streets in the 3rd century, which became an iconic feature of European cities. The durable and practical paving material proved to be extremely weather-resistant.

On average, a quality exterior brick stain can last between 10 and 20 years, and sometimes even longer. While it will look its best for a minimum of three to five years, its total lifespan depends on several factors. These include the quality and type of stain used, the condition of the brick, and the thoroughness of the surface preparation, such as proper cleaning. Following the manufacturer's application instructions and applying a sealant as a final step is also crucial. The stain's longevity can be affected by your location, climate, and the brick's exposure to harsh weather, high traffic, and other elements. Over time, the stain may begin to fade or look dingy due to weathering, erosion, dirt, and debris. Compared to paint, brick stain generally has a longer lifespan.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

You should use cement for a chimney crown. The purpose of the chimney crown is to protect the mortar below from water damage and the effects of weather. For this reason, chimney crowns should only be made using cement. When repairing a crown, use caulks and sealants designed for cement repair rather than mortar repair.
