"Mr. Palmieri did the tuck pointing that was needed, removing the loose bricks and refitting them. He also repaired where the foundation had been moved by ground water. Extremely neat and polite. He clearly explained what he was doing and what the causes could have been for the problem. Excellent experience!"

"Day One: The Job began on July second about 9 am. The crew removed all necessary plants, saving desired plants and discarded anything unwanted. By the end of day one, they had almost completely excavated all four walls. We paid a third of the total cost, ~$4000, about halfway through the first day.
Day Two: This day consisted of the completion of the excavation, prepping the walls, and putting on a layer of concrete, followed by sealer, onto the walls. The crew ended a little earlier on this day because of excessive rain. They tried to protect the walls as best one can. There never seemed to be more that about 4-6 inches of water in the trench, and the integrity of the trench remaind very solid.
Day Three: On the Forth of July, one worker came and rolled the tar onto the walls. This took about half a day.
Day Four: This day consisted of the installation of the new drainage system and downspouts, as well as the addition of gravel to create pitch and stabilize pipes in the trench. The Inspector for the pipes showed up early that morning, but he barely looked in the trenches. The inspector for the walls never come to look at the work. Now I am no inspector, but I would think you would want to go into the trench and look closely, but I guess that's why so many people get bad work done. I was very satisfied with the way that everything had been done, both to the walls and within the trenches, so I'm not too concerned. The crew were very good at explaining what each process was and the walls and drainage looked fabulous when they were finished. The crew met my request to backfill the gravel all the way up on one section of the house. The section of driveway was also prepped for concrete. This day also had some rain, but ended with the work almost complete.
Day Five: The driveway was poured and a small stoop was added (at no additional cost) to bring the door to driveway drop off more to code. The rest of the gravel, backfill, and Topsoil was put into place. They replanted the requested plants and allowed my wife to direct them in location. They replanted grass were requested. The rest of bill was paid at the end of the day, ~$8000.
Notes:Price: Now I know that I gave them a B on price and that is because I feel that similar quality work could have been done by other companies that I looked at for less, ~$1000. But no other company was able to offer the speed of schedule that CHUBB did. This speed is what was our deciding factor and for us the price was worth it. There was also an issue of water usage which I will discuss later.
Punctuality: Now I gave them A, the only issues that I had at all was the initial scheduling of the week which work would be preformed, which I found out was a byproduct of the concrete availability, weather, and how other jobs in front of mine were going/went. Once a date was scheduled I felt their punctuality was impeccable.
Responsiveness: I gave them an A; however, I did have some issues with getting some answers to certain questions. Again, I found out these were more a byproduct of the issues I mentioned in Punctuality. On location I felt every member of the crew was very responsive to my questions and concerns. Other: One issue I had not realized was how much of our water would be used. This was a cost that I was not planning on. The crew used our exterior faucet for running a drainage test, cleaning the walls, their tools, the driveway & street, the siding of the house, and the watering of the plants. I won't know the final cost for my increased water usage, but based on my normal usage it will be a spike. Let me make it clear that I never felt like they wasted water. The use was necessary, just didn't realize that I was going to be the one paying for it. I also had to have the Central Air Conditioning unit removed in order to preform the work. For anyone else using this company that does not go with CHUBB's subcontractor (Which is an additional cost) here is some advise. Definitely get it out at least a day before the work starts. They were able to move very quickly because we had removed it the friday before the work started. Schedule the rehook-up of the AC unit for the last day and let them know which wall it goes on. I waited for the wall to be done and had to wait almost a week to have my service provider re install the unit. None of that was CHUBB's fault, but something I didn't think about.
Because of the cost of the work, we were not able to do the rest of the driveway. If and when we do our driveway, I would definitely use them again. I felt that the crew did a great job and they were very fast!"

"It was great. Josh Betts returned my call first thing the next morning, and he was at the property quickly (and on a Sunday). Josh was right on time for the walk-through with our contractor. We had the repair plans the following afternoon. Josh is clearly very knowledgeable. I would recommend Betts Structural with absolutely no hesitation."

"Jamal and Benjamin came to our home today to diagnose the source of water damage to our living room ceiling. They quickly determined that the cause was water seeping through small holes in a caulked area of our second-floor bathtub. Both technicians were knowledgeable and personable. Everything about WyattWorks is polished and professional, from their modern and clean graphic identity to their brightly painted, late-model trucks and their technicians' neatly pressed attire."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

For a smooth masonry project in Mentor, first review any neighborhood guidelines and secure necessary approvals. Schedule work between late spring and early fall for optimal curing, and confirm all underground utilities are marked before starting. Select contractors familiar with Lake County’s soil and weather patterns, and book early in the season, as demand rises quickly after winter in northeast Ohio.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work in Mentor provides immediate curb appeal and shields your home from northeast Ohio’s unpredictable weather, including harsh winters and heavy rain. Over time, you’ll benefit from increased property value, improved structural durability, and fewer repairs caused by Lake County’s clay soil and freeze-thaw cycles. Well-maintained masonry also helps reduce insurance risks and preserves your home’s classic exterior for decades.

Helpful?

In Mentor, address masonry issues immediately if you notice water leaks, structural cracks, loose bricks, or basement dampness—these can worsen rapidly due to freeze-thaw cycles and clay soil movement. Minor cosmetic cracks or stains can be monitored, but homes near Lake Erie or built before the 1980s should prioritize repairs, especially if the masonry is original or shows signs of shifting.

Helpful?

Your Mentor home is an excellent candidate for masonry work if it features brick, stone, or block construction, has a stable foundation, and reliable drainage. Homes built from the 1950s to 1980s often benefit most. Consider a professional assessment if your property is older, has experienced water issues, or sits on clay soil, which is common in Lake County and prone to shifting.

Helpful?

In Mentor, masonry maintenance should include a spring inspection to catch freeze-thaw damage, repointing mortar joints every 15–25 years, and resealing every 3–5 years to prevent moisture issues. Pay close attention to drainage, especially with local clay soil. Clean gutters in the fall, look for ice damage after winter, and schedule repairs during the dry, warm summer months for best results.
