"They changed our lives! Super honest people! They cleaned and sanitized our duct work so well we don't sneeze and cough anymore! They found a silver bracelet that was a family heirloom while cleaning our dryer and making it look like new! We also hired them to insulate our crawl space pipes and we now have hot water more quickly!"

"VHM power washed part of our roof which had some moss on it, the exterior of our house, landscaping rock around our house, our sidewalks and driveway. We were pleased with the job they did and the price charged for the job."

"Scott, the company owner, is absolutely awesome. He ranks as one of the best contractors I have ever hired, and I had no prior connection to him or any prior knowledge of this company’s existence before finding him through HomeAdvisor. Not only was he extraordinarily knowledgeable about all of my furnace issues, he was knowledgeable about a wide variety of other subjects as well, which I found to be really impressive and actually made for some fun conversation. He promptly returned my initial inquiry (within minutes); he was punctual in meeting me at my property; he was thorough in his assessments; and he was so generous with a follow-up inquiry that I had relating to furnace meters, volunteering to return to the house to double-check on this— at no charge. In addition to Scott, his employees were excellent in performing the installation of a new furnace. And, his pricing was beyond fair and reasonable. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend Scott and State Heating and Air Conditioning to all who are looking for a competent and honest business to address heating and cooling issues."

"Our furnace acted up on a Saturday afternoon and we didn't think we would be able to find anyone to come out. Our phone call was answered promptly. We were told that someone would be out within an hour, and he was! The service provided was very professional and thorough. Everything was checked thoroughly before he left. We are very impressed, and Alpha Air will be the ones we call when we need service on our furnace or central air. They're very reliable!"

"We chose Gilbert's (Lennox) for our replacement central A/C. They were highly recommended by a friend and a neighbor. They were right!! We had gotten 4 estimates before hiring Gilbert's. Their price was the best! Their yearly service/maintenance contract is lower than their competitors. Todd and associates are professional, questions were answered, and any hiccup was addressed and resolved in a timely manner. Two thumbs up!!!"

"The Liberty Air crew showed on time and began removing the old system and fabricating new duct work to fit the new system. They worked non stop for about 6.5 hours and had finished the preliminary installation of the new system. The following morning they returned and completed the outside work installing the new compressor unit and related plumbing/wiring. I was amazed by the size of the new unit, it was clearly larger than the one previously sitting on the pad. John had explained during the estimate, the the builder had installed a unit too small for the size of the home, which caused some of the problems. Liberty Air did a great job and I complemented them on their attention to details. Everything fits, the wiring is tucked away nicely and the system runs perfectly. And - I have a heated garage!"

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Evaporator coils in an HVAC system typically last between 10 and 15 years, which is roughly the same lifespan as the entire AC unit. The longevity of the coils can be affected by usage frequency, environmental conditions, and how well they are maintained. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspections, can extend their durability. If the evaporator coil fails in an older air conditioner, it may be more cost-effective to replace the whole unit rather than just the coil.

A 10,000-watt generator can run a small to mid-sized central AC unit (typically up to 3 tons or 36,000 BTU) along with a few other appliances. However, larger AC units or additional loads will require a bigger generator. Consult a local generator installer to ensure you add the correct size generator to your home.

Yes, a dirty evaporator coil can freeze up. Dirty evaporator coils can’t absorb or transfer heat properly. The dirt and grime restrict airflow, which is needed to move heat throughout the system properly. Your air conditioning unit could freeze over, or it can cause your heat pump to freeze.

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.

Yes, mini-split or ductless AC systems add value to a home and do not devalue it. They are an attractive feature for potential buyers, especially in older homes without existing ductwork, as they provide a practical air conditioning solution without the significant expense and hassle of installing traditional ducts. Ductless systems also eliminate issues associated with conventional ductwork, such as noise and the potential for pests. Furthermore, homeowners value energy-efficient solutions, and mini-splits offer high efficiency for both heating and cooling, plus zoned temperature control. This leads to lower energy consumption and reduced electric bills, which is a major selling point.
