"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"Cramer Engineering provided me with the information that I needed to evaluate and repair the foundation of my home. Zach Bingham answered all of my followup questions in a timely manner and provided me with a comprehensive written report. The cost of the inspection was well spent and saved me a considerable amount of money in that I did not spend money on unneeded repairs."

"While Keith is quite knowledgeable in his trade and at one time completed the work himself, it's quite evident he has an "A" and "B" team working for him. Our project went more than 10 days past the estimated completion date and they started 10 days before the estimated start date (there was a period of almost 2 weeks where no one worked at our house a single day and our deck was completely torn apart with building supplies taking over a section of our backyard grass). Keith did try to go above and beyond by obtaining some reclaimed granite to make my grill area a bit more sophisticated. Again, Keith knows how a job should be done but I clearly got the "B" or maybe even "C" team. Poor craftsmanship, corners cut and a stain job that was embarrassing to call professional left a real sour taste in my mouth. The kids he has working for him basically used my deck project as a training program. I eventually asked Keith to knock off a couple hundred bucks from the final payment because I could wrap up the staining myself 10 times better than his guys (which I've since started but not yet completed). I expected to be "wowed" with this project and after Keith said to me "I don't think I could ever truly satisfy you" I know the time to cut bait was then. There were numerous un-stained parts of the project and too many touch ups to note (e.g. Where you could clearly see the wood or previous paint under what they "painted"). Oh, and there is now deck paint on some of the wood siding of my house (again, sloppy job). Looking at the job after it was "done", i noticed many more corners that were cut - literally and figuratively. The railroad ties are not level (sloping severely down) and the cuts around the stairs are not even the same on both sides - making it look sloppy and uneven. Oh and there is so much sand now on my brick patio that I'm tempted to re-do it myself - and there's huge chunks of polymer missing and weeds coming through already... What Keith promised sounded awesome and I think with the right crew, I would have been wowed. Now, I'm just glad it's over and happy that it at least looks better than it did before they started. Make sure you're getting the "A" team. You'll know very quickly if you aren't..."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Indications include cracks in walls, uneven floors, and sticking doors or windows that suggest foundation movements.

The early stages of building a house are harder than the later stages; laying the foundation and framing the house are two of the most challenging steps. However, it varies for everyone. Some people have difficulty installing HVAC, plumbing, and electricity, while others find it harder to plan the house and secure the necessary permits.

Yes, they offer plans for repairs or reinforcements to address issues.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.
