"I talked with someone from the company a week ago, and they said theywould call or e-mail me to confirm working either Friday or Saturday this last weekend. Monday afternoon rolls around and I find a business card shoved in my mailbox. Maybe just a problem with communication, but it's an important situation. Confirm with your customer when you're going to contact them again, or confirm when you're going to be there. Don't ignore them, don't pass up milestones in the communication calendar, and don't show up unexpected and just leave a card! I am disappointed, and still have a leaking pipe."

"Joe came out after no other companies picked up the phone and he was the only one. A young man who is doing it right! He showed me his insurance and told me the price, which was very reasonable. He mowed my grass all summer and also redid my flower beds. I plan on using him for years to come. I definitely recommend this young man to any other customer. He always communicated the day before that he would be out mowing. I recommended him to my neighbors and I also recommend him to anybody else!"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.

Branches, leaves, grass clippings, and landscaping debris are typically collected.

Excavators work in tandem with dump trucks to haul away excess dirt and soil. The excavator will dig into the ground and move the excess dirt into a pile. Using a backhoe, the specialist can fill a truck with excavated soil from that pile. They will then drive the truck to a different location where they can dump the material.

Raking is one way to remove moss from your lawn. However, if you rake live moss, it can spread and exacerbate the problem. Instead, use a moss killer, then wait a couple of weeks before raking to ensure the moss is dead and can’t spread to other areas of your lawn.

Unless it’s rubber or you need to prune suckers and remove weeds, you shouldn’t need to get rid of the old mulch around your tree. Simply push old mulch a few inches away from the trunk of your tree and then top it off with enough fresh mulch to reach 3 to 4 inches in height.
