"After several quotes and researching companies online, I chose to hire Eli and his crew for my driveway project, adding onto an existing driveway. Eli was easy to work with, responded to my calls promptly, and answered all my questions thoroughly. Pricing was competitive and job was completed the next day of hiring them. Driveway looks beautiful! Would recommend!"

"Very poor customer service after job completion. Paving looked good at completion, 6 weeks later I discovered grass/ weeds growing up through blacktop in numerous places. Called twice and was told someone would check. Never heard from them again."

"The three man crew carefully inspected and prepared the driveway prior to topping.

All cracks were filled and squeegeed.

The crew then coated the driveway with a uniform topcoat.
They paid particular attention to the edges/borders and did not miss any area.
They were careful not to splash anything on our house siding, garage doors and siding.  They also were careful not to splash sealer
on garage doors, floors and sidewalks.
There was no debris left in our yard nor on our street.
They were very respectful to us and our community.  There was no loud or vulgar language.
This is the second time this month that we used Vitale Asphalt Maintenance and we are very satisfied with all aspects of dealing with this company.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

A driveway's lifespan varies by material. Asphalt driveways typically last 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last longer, between 20 and 50 years. The longevity of any driveway is affected by factors like extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, and the quality of maintenance. Regular upkeep, such as filling cracks, resealing the surface, and ensuring proper drainage, can help extend its life. For gravel driveways, regrading to fill in uneven areas every year or two is recommended.

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

It takes recycled asphalt 48 hours to initially harden and up to 3 months to fully cure. It’s best to stay off of recycled asphalt for at least 48 hours, then you can walk or drive standard vehicles on it. Hold off on driving heavy trucks or equipment on it for at least 7 days. Allowing the surface to melt together and harden ensures that the surface stays durable and long-lasting.

Gravel is the most economical and least expensive driveway material, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. This is significantly cheaper than alternatives like asphalt or concrete. However, it's important to consider long-term costs, as gravel driveways require regular maintenance. You will likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year and regularly rake it to keep it level, which can add to the overall cost over time.

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.
