"I made the arrangements over the phone. They came during the day, while I was at work. After work, I took a look where the nest had been, and there wasn't a trace of the nest afterwards. They’re a nuisance, but silverfish aren’t nearly as dangerous as other pests like cockroaches, mice, termites or bed bugs. They don’t carry diseases that humans or pets can catch, and they don’t cause widespread destruction like termites or rats. Silverfish are small and find it very easy to get inside any exposed foodstuffs. Like weevils, you may find them in unprotected flour, cereal, grains, bread boxes, chip packages and more. When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. Carpenter ants don’t eat wood. It’s a common misconception because many kinds of termites eat wood as well as live inside it. Carpenter ants, however, are omnivores and only chew into wood to create pathways and nests, discarding the chewed wood as frass which is a major indicator of a carpenter ant problem. They prefer to eat smaller insects, sweet things like spilled honey, and sources of protein like pet food.

The same heat treatment that’s effective on flea eggs will also destroy the adults. There are four stages of the flea life cycle—egg, larva, pupa, and adult—and you’ll have to keep all of them in mind when taking on a pest infestation in your home.

There’s no denying the striking resemblance, but squash bugs are different from the brown marmorated stink bug. While both are shield-shaped and emit a foul odor when crushed, they belong to different insect families and target different plants. Squash bugs primarily attack squash, pumpkins, and other cucurbits, while stink bugs have a much broader range of host plants, including fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. Their eggs and feeding damage also differ, making proper identification key for effective pest control.
