No, water bugs are not big roaches. Water bugs and cockroaches are different insects entirely, belonging to different orders. They are often confused for one another because they are similar in appearance, but water bugs and cockroaches have close-up differences in how they look, plus they behave and feed in very different ways.

You can’t stay in your house while fumigating, even if it’s only one room.  When using a bug bomb or fogger in any area of your home, the entire home must be fully prepped and everyone must leave regardless of how many rooms are being fumigated. If you'll be booking a stay overnight to give your home time to air out, factor the hotel room into your total fumigation cost.

You can easily find sprays that claim they are safe for pets and kids. However, we’d rather not use them in our own homes if we’re worried about pet safety: They still include pesticides and other chemicals, and are best avoided in any food prep areas like the kitchen, or any spots where children and pets may place. That’s why sprays didn’t end up in our suggestions for the safest options.

If the nest is on or in your home, you should have an exterminator remove it. However, if the wasp nest is in an area of your yard that you don't frequent, you can leave it alone as long as the wasps don’t bother your household members. Wasps are very active during the summer months, but they will vacate in the fall and not return until the following year. So, if it's safe to do so, you can leave it, but if it poses a threat of being stung because it's in an area that you use frequently, consider having it removed.

Aside from incorporating smells that roaches hate in your bedroom, such as citronella, lemongrass, or clove oil, there are a few ways you can keep roaches away at night. First, try moving your bed away from the wall, as roaches will often climb the walls and onto your bed.
