"He worked hard clearing out the honeysuckle and small trees in our backyard. He carried limbs to a dumpster. He pulled out the roots and graded the ground. He was very diligent in meeting my needs and making sure all my requests were met. I appreciate how he spent time walking the property with me to ensure I was satisfied."

"Trustworthy. Rob did everything he said he would do and a little bit more. Everything was well done. One task (stump grinding) took longer than he had estimated because it was a bit outside of his core experiences, but instead of hurrying through other tasks or passing the extra costs on to us he did as he said he would do without complaint. I wish more businesses operated this way."

"The excavation broke my main water line. It was fixed the same day costing me extra from what was quoted. I found a crack in my driveway cement after the project was completed due to the excavation equipment's weight. I did not report it to Jacobs. The project was completed in the allotted time."

"I wanted to transform my backyard. After 4 kids and 30 years it was literally an eyesore and detriment to my property. Had a bit of drainage issues to boot. After working with Chase on a design, Carter and the guys "crashed" my backyard. Even with 3 weeks worth of monsoon type weather they diligently worked on the days they could and created my patio oasis for me to enjoy with my wife, family and friends! With the weather we are having this April the drainage has already been tested and I give it an A+. Fair pricing, integrity, and the owners get their hands Dirty. I highly recommend this crew!"

"Brandon and his crew dug a 3 foot deep 75 foot long ditch for a new water line through a heavily landscaped terrace where a mechanical ditch cutting machine could not be used. I cannot begin to describe all the ways they were thoughtful about the project and careful to preserve the existing landscape. He had to reschedule the first meeting for the job estimate because of a time conflict, but we met the next day. The following day his crew showed up and completed the project in just two day. The ditch location required cutting through hard clay. The company can apparently do many different kinds of projects besides landscaping. I will definitely hire Brandon and his crew again for other projects."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

Yes, professional installations include trenching or borehole drilling required for ground loops.

The time it takes to build a pool—and dig out the area—varies based on the pool size and type. A professional excavator will take between four and eight hours to dig a pool. The process will take longer if they encounter large boulders or tree roots. Keep in mind that this is a small part of the process in the long run. You will need between eight and 12 weeks to build a pool from start to finish, including the time to apply for permits.

Landscape edging is more DIYable than trenching. You can DIY your own digging projects, but proceed carefully and only with proper knowledge of the equipment and appropriate safety measures in place. Keep in mind the project's scope and estimate how long it will take you to do it on your own. While you can certainly save money by DIYing home improvement projects, you can’t exactly hide an unfinished—or worse, ruined— landscaping job from the neighbors. It’s always safer to call an excavation pro near you to get an estimate.

Yes, you can technically make a crawl space liveable, but the only way to do so is by converting it into a basement. While some crawl spaces are big enough to walk through and store large items, they lack appropriate insulation and space to be liveable.
