Nieman Plumbing

We were having problems with what turned out to be a broken sewer line, causing intermittent backups and flooding during heavy rain. Two other plumbers managed to get the drain flowing again but neither gave us a definite diagnosis without a contract to dig. Nieman quickly diagnosed the problem, gave the best price by far, and initially tried a trenchless repair. That proved to be unfeasible, and the job was re-spec’d for excavation. The guys did a careful and highly efficient excavation, replaced the broken saddle tee, and brought in gravel to stabilize the backfill. Two weeks later they returned and removed the spoils. I’m very happy with the results, and that Neman honored their price estimate even with the added excavation work. My only complaint was getting the work scheduled, which took more calling (about 6 calls from me vs. two return calls) than I thought should be necessary. Otherwise everyone involved was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and admirably professional.

Main line backed up during a load of laundry late Friday. Called on Saturday afternoon and they were out late morning on Monday (New Years eve). Ran a camera and found 2 blocks caused by roots. Cleared both spots then ran camera again to inspect all the way to main sewer line. They replaced the clean out cap and cleaned the floor when they were done. Brennan and Chris were the crew and I would use them again.

It took a while but the problem got fixed.

I only had them once when another company was busy and I needed someone to look at the drain the next day. I wouldn't have them back again. It was way overpriced. I had a drain underneath the heat pump that had backed up. The carpet was wet inside. It was two very young man. They really didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. I had to tell them "the other drain connects to that drain". What it amounted to was finally them putting something thru the drain in the utility room underneath the family room there and into the furnace cabinet where the drain for the humidifier and my dehumidifier goes into the same drain.

Plumbers sealed drain pipe in sink to stop leak. Replaced 25-year old faucet in other bathroom with a new delta faucet. Very courteous crew, who knew how to fix the problems. Would hire again.

Finished in a timely manner and everything seems fine. Had to snake 75 feet in the kitchen drain and replaced a couple of the PVC pipes. Also changed the float system in our toilet

They worked with a sub-contractor that installed all of the plumbing for the house. It was included in the cost of the house. It has varied through the years. We had them out for service a couple of times. Then we tried some other people and lately, we've done some stuff and brought them back in. They've done some good work this time. They're probably not the cheapest. But partly because they were familiar with the installation and everything, they seem to be able to handle it better.

He was the fourth plumbing that looked at this and figured out the problem. Josh was very nice and did an excellent job.

They contacted the County for us to find out why we needed a chlorinator, since there hadn't been one in the four years that we owned the house. They also got an extension for us to replace the motor since they were very backed up and couldn't get out to our house immediately and weren't sure that the replacement would be available in enough time.

John was AWESOME! He replaced the "insides" of the toilet and shut off valve.
He was very professional and knowledgeable. Will definitely be using this service again when the time comes.

The crew arrived on time and e planned exactly what they were going to do. They first had to drill a new hole through the basement foundation wall so they run a new water line with a new shutoff. Then a backhoe was brought in and they excavated the front yard, creating a trench about 3 feet deep and 3 feetwide and about 35 feet long. They laid a new line, connected it to the city water line and then connected it to he house at the new line they created. When everything was finished they made sure everything was working correctly and there were no leaks. The last step was to back fill the trench but because the ground was so wet from all the eater that had leaked into the ground, we decided to wait until the ground had dried out some. They came back about 2 weeks later and finished the back fill and the rough grading, as per the agreement.

They were efficient and timely.

So our floor drain started to overflow about a week ago.   It got really bad Monday night so I called the first plumber I found(not Nieman).  This other plumber came out and tried to rod the line, but after 2 hours of trying was told that they hit a wall and could not go any further.  Next thing I'm told that I will have to dig up my yard, replace the lines, and handed me a proposal of $9,000 to do the job!  That night I called for a 2nd opinion and got in touch with AJ with Nieman Plumbing.  This guys knows his craft!  He advised me to contact the city first to see if this something they would come out,  look at the problem to possibly see if the damage is in the right of way(if it was the city would have fixed the sewer line).  AJ did not have to provide me with this information as he could've thrown out a lower bid  and being in a crunch and vulnerable I would've wrote anyone a check to start digging so my family could once again flush toilets, take showers, laundry etc...AJ walked me through how to get in contact with MSD, what to say, etc...City came out, did there thing, and I was told the problem is not in the right of way. 

Called AJ back and he had his crew out to my house the next day.  Before digging and having me spend thousands of dollars he had his guys (Paul and Brennan) camera the line to make sure the problem is routs and not crushed pipes..  They found 4 of the joints had heavy roots coming in.  The cleaned out the line with this machine that is out of this world high tech. This machine alone is a reason to go with these guys!   They walked me through the entire process, where very respectful to the house, and cleaned up as if they were never here. I can't say enough good things about this company.  I will be using these guys for all my plumbing needs going forward.

Absolutely superb.  I am a highly knowledgeable individual familiar and accomplished in nearly every building trade.  I am a long-time Nieman customer for this reason: VALUE for the dollar.  No, Nieman won't always be your overall lowest cost option, but if you absolutely want the most professional work done at the lowest price for the highest quality work, go no further.
For this particular job, I was preemptively replacing my 11-year-old tank water heater with a tankless model.  To my friends I'm known as Mr. Research, and consistent with that I had decided upon a Takagi T-H3-DV and requested a quote from Nieman as well as another well-respected contractor.  Once again, Nieman had a slightly better price, but more importantly, unlike the other contractor, they had done a true detailed analysis of what needed to be done to make the installation perfect.  I've worked with Nieman's master plumber Joe Geisler for years and requested he do the work.  To be concise, the work was done quickly and with attention to detail seldom seen these days.  
I am always cautious about praising any provider too much, but Nieman is truly the elite in Cincinnati plumbing.
Further commentary:  
Past work:  When built, my home was plumbed by what I would call an average plumber.  Several problems arose that included an excessively noisy lift station that rocked my bedroom when it cycled.  After Nieman re-plumbed it, it's nearly silent.  They solved other issues as well with the same level of expertise.
Subsequent work:  I have a large home with 2 water heaters.  I had planned on proactively replacing the 2nd unit when one month after they installed the tankless unit, the second unit failed.  I worked closely with Brian Nieman in selecting a tank unit (a better option for this situation) and once again, Nieman quickly and expertly installed my selection.
