"I really can't say enough good about Westin Air and the team of people who work there. Professional all the way. This was simply an annual system check-up on the TRANE HVAC system Westin Air installed late summer last year. Justin and Frank were the technicians. They neatly performed annual maintenance on the system and answered a few questions I had about the unit's staging system. These folks are PROS and I highly recommend them."

"I first contacted Franklin Heating and Cooling in 2015 right after moving to this neighborhood and needed my thermostat replaced. Their pricing was great, the technician was nice and they got the job done right away. I then had low freonagain a few years later and cashed them again. I then started using them fairly regularly, twice a year for maintenance. I did call another company for service at one point and that proved to be a mistake, I reported that company to the BBB. I resumed using Franklin Heating and Cooling and have called them ever since for my HVAC needs. Caleb came out on a Sunday when my blower quit working, he was back first thing Monday to replace it (I was very grateful as I have a health condition). Most recently I decided to have my HVAC system replaced as a preventive measure as my furnace and AC unit were nearly 20 years old. Gary quoted me a great price and was able to get it scheduled within a weeks time. Jeremy and Ryan came out to do the installation and they were efficient, friendly and knowledgeable! Jeremy was a life- saver pointing out that we had ductwork that pulled in outside air, but it could be opened and closed as needed. This was in response to my indicating if had some issues even with the air on. Franklin Heating and Cooling are a caring bunch of professionals with great customer service skills and knowledge. Even Jackie and the gals in the office at nice and keep you informed! Jake too!! Look at their website, they have an A+ rating with the BBB!"

"We would highly recommend JMSM. John was extremely personable, professional and thorough. We had our gas fireplace inspected and cleaned and John took the time to inspect and test all parts. As a bonus, he educated us on the use in emergency situations...such as power outage. We are very happy."

"I’m so glad I went with APEX Pros. I was under the misconception that going with the bigger companies meant more money yet, I have had small business owners give extremely high estimates even without expressing the full scope of the job. I have also been taken advantage of by the smaller companies several times. With APEX Pros, the technician Romerial was extremely knowledgeable and was able to diagnose the job quickly. There were some broken support brackets from the drain pan and so everything was draining to the floor. In order to cool we had to swim basically. Floor was covered and each tech before APEX and Romerial had no clue what to do. It’s been going on for months and now I have a dry basement. The technician explained the job, showed me exactly what was going on, walked me through the full scope of the job, then estimated the time at two hours, brought a level of calm and comfort to me that I had not not even once during the hvac issue. I definitely recommend them."

"We had two water heaters replaced with a single tankless water heater. Lance from Apex came in and gave us a straightforward quote. Lance and David explained the value and features we would see with our new tankless system. They clearly explained everything that was going to need to be done and did a great job all the way through completing our project. The work is clean and well executed. I will call Apex going forward for any of my plumbing needs. Great company."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, mini-split systems are generally less expensive to run than central air conditioners and are significantly more energy-efficient. Because mini-splits do not rely on ductwork, they avoid the energy loss associated with ducted systems, allowing cooled or heated air to reach its destination more efficiently. Additionally, they offer zoned control, meaning you can run units in individual rooms and turn them off in unoccupied areas. This capability can lead to energy savings of about 30% compared to a central air system, resulting in a lower monthly energy bill.

A new air conditioner capacitor will cost less than replacing the entire air conditioner system. While a capacitor itself will cost between $8 and $25, paying a professional to replace an AC capacitor will cost $180 on average. It’s not safe to replace an air conditioner capacitor on your own.

You should flush your AC drain line once every three months to keep it clear of debris and buildup. Keeping your AC drain line clean prevents clogs, backups, mold growth, and extra wear on your AC unit. If you live in a humid area or have several furry pets, up your cleaning schedule to once a month.

You can run an HRV with air conditioning—assuming that you decide to keep the system on during the summer. The HRV will continue to bring in fresh outdoor air, which will then flow into your AC unit and cool down your home. It will also keep moving the stuffy indoor air out of your house.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.
