"To be honest Im dealing with a complicated district and I was kind of frustrated that my project was handed off to a new person but Raegan Hammon was the most patient, kind, professional and efficient Architect I have ever had the pleasure 🙏 of doing business with. "Jeff was excellent to work with! He was knowledgable all of the details, manufacturers, colors, and came up with 4 different design options for the exterior of our home. We are just regular people, with an average home, who are planning to replace roof, trim and accent siding. His fees are reasonable, and totally worth it for such a big investment on our home. More people should consider getting some help with these important decisions. Thanks again Jeff!"

"The floor came out beautifully. It was a relatively small job and Flinn Built was the only company of five A-rated companies on Angie's List that I tried who would fit me in in a short time. Also, Tim, the company's owner, showed real integrity when his tile man failed to show up on the morning he was scheduled. As compensation, the work was finished the next day and my grouting was done for free. Tim was very involved and made sure everything else went very smoothly. I look forward to hiring his company again when needed."

"Brad was fantastic! I had previously had another contractor come in and estimate about 1000 in repairs. Brad indicated this was definitely not the case. He provided an estimate and then beat it by $100. He was knowledgeable, on time and friendly. Estimate was provided and he came back and finished everything in less than 3 hours. Great guy! Great service! And I will be using him again.

Architects questions, answered by experts

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

The design phase varies by project size and complexity; initial ideas can take weeks, while extensive plans may extend to months for complete detailing.

You can draw your own house plans using three-dimensional modeling software, but in most cases, you’ll need an architect to draw up the final plans. Architects understand local building regulations and requirements, so their plans will be necessary for getting permits approved, and they’ll also ensure your home is structurally sound. DIY house plans can be a good place to start to help visualize your project, but you should always defer to a professional before trying to proceed with the project.

Stone, marble, and brick are common building materials of Neoclassical architecture, though you will also find wood flooring and a range of natural stone tiles. Since several home styles fall under Neoclassical architects' umbrella, a range of building materials—including traditional wood framing—will make an appearance.

A construction manager is particularly useful in the case of a large-scale build with custom design elements, so it’s usually worth it to hire one. They can help manage your budget, maintain quality control, oversee timelines, and navigate unexpected hurdles. While construction managers are pricey, they can actually save money in the long run by identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring the project stays within budget.
