"I needed a mini-split in my office-at-home. I contacted a few A/C companies, and set up appointments for the following couple of weeks. Except for one – Shaun from Extreme’s One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning of Beavercreek stopped by the same day. He did a thorough review of the situation (and he really knows his stuff!) and provided me estimates for 3 different options. It all made sense, but I wanted to get estimates from other companies as well. It turns out they were all higher and had some “gotcha’s” in them. Then before I could make up my mind, Shaun called and told me of a special opportunity he found out about, at a much lower cost. I placed the order over the phone. The crew arrived two days later. Joe and Caleb are real expert installers. Shaun was there too, helping and guiding. They did an excellent job with the installation and cleanup, offering creative solutions to various minor issues that came up due to my requirements and satisfying my every whim. The end result is a first-rate mini-split, performing better than expected and at a very affordable price. Next time I have an A/C or heating project, Extreme’s One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning will be the first and only company I call."

"Just bought my home and had not turned the furnace on yet.  Robbie came out and inspected the furnace and also went over the filter system and things I need to do to keep it running at peak performance.

"They responded quickly and seem honest which goes a long way with me. they gave us several options. We are still waiting on the new furnace, but they were up front with that also. What told me a lot about is that that a hand shake was good enough(although we couldn't shake) . We will see how the work goes I believe it will be fine. that is why I gave a 5"

Hi! I am a chemical engineer specializing in industrial utilities by trade who enjoys fixing and building things in my free time. I offer services such as furniture building, home appliance repairs (ovens, refrigerators, freezers, dishwasher, garbage disposal, washer/dryer, water heater, A/C, furnace, sump pump, etc) small scale plumbing or drainage projects/repairs (exterior storm water drainage, pvc/copper piping- I do not do cast iron, faucets, etc). I can install new appliances, but might need help lifting and setting the appliance (I do not dispose of old appliances). I also can repair kitchen stand mixers such as Kitchen aids (rebuild/regrease).

"The biggest obstacle was scheduling.  The Angie's List confirmation email did not include the instruction to schedule on the Flow-Rite web site.  It took 3 or 4 emails to clarify that which delayed getting the work scheduled.
The replacement parts worked fine with the exception of some excess plastic on the valve which prevented a tight seal and thus lead to a running toilet.  It took a few minutes with the razor blade to cut the excess off and allowed the seal to form properly.  This probably should have been done by the installer.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The most important sign of a boiler problem is something happening unexpectedly, which is why regular boiler maintenance is important. Unexpected problems can include strange smells, new leaks, and unexpected noises that your boiler wasn’t making before. Additionally, if a boiler keeps shutting off or can’t maintain a specific temperature range, it’s time to call in an expert.

Since your boiler keeps you warm and provides hot water to your home, you’re likely to notice issues with heating in your living space right away. The most obvious sign that your boiler is breaking is not getting any heat or hot water. You might also hear some odd sounds coming from your boiler during operation, the flame in your gas boiler is not blue, the pressure is inconsistent, or your boiler is using more energy than it should. If you notice any of these signs, be sure to call a pro right away.

The main difference between an outdoor wood furnace versus an outdoor wood boiler is what each appliance is heating. An outdoor wood furnace burns wood to create heat, which warms the air and moves it through the ducts in your home. An outdoor wood boiler uses the heat from burning wood to warm water, which goes through pipes to radiators in the home.

An expansion tank must always be installed on the supply side, which is the side where the boiler sends water out to heat the systems. That placement allows the water to push against the air and condense properly as it is heated, then circulated through the system. Professional installers can recommend the best place on the supply side for an expansion tank.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.
