"Stop clicking, look no further. If you're in the market to improve your home's comfort and energy efficiency in the Columbus OH area, your first step should be to have an inexpensive but crucial Columbia Gas home energy audit with a full blower door test and their so useful thermal camera walkthrough. Take pictures and notes while following the guy around with his thermal camera. I paid $25 for mine after receiving a $25 off coupon -see R-pro's website. Then, pay close attention to their recommendations and possible substantial rebates. I'm getting a $705 rebate check back in 4-6 weeks because my insulation job was completed within the right timeline, and the net blower door results passed in flying colors. Competition? One worthless contractor wanted a laughable $7300 to drill hundreds of core holes in our home's wood siding for injected foam insulation, when it was our attic that was deficient. Another competent contractor wanted $6200 for apples to apples insulation compared to R-pro. That would have been a huge amount of $$$$ to leave on the table. I paid R-pro $1952.50 for R-49 full attic insulation that was formerly inadequate, and a 20' exterior attached garage wall at our family room that was found to be missing all insulation. Only a thermal camera could realistically detect that. Also, 3 bath vent fans were all improperly installed by a pesky and clueless previous owner. Such a huge immediately noticeable improvement in our home's total comfort! I'm writing this rave review for R-pro because they really earned it. My install with R-Pro was superb in every way! Brian and Mike, and one other guy all worked so well together as a happy team. They first were so careful to protect our home from any inadvertent damage or dirt, especially for our new carpet. They all didn't cut any corners (I observed all 5 hours), and they were relentless in sealing up any and all points of air infiltration in our formerly drafty 1950's home. INSTANT comfort! 2 Furnaces are so much quieter now. Can't wait to see the gas and electricity savings, but it's the comfort that really motivates me to write this here. Shop around if you must, but be sure to hire the owner John with R-Pro if you want to be so happy like we are! If you recently bought an old home, this is the first home remodel improvement to do before doing anything else. But anytime is better than suffering winter after winter in a drafty house."

"Ed and his team were excellent. They installed new siding on two gables and trim around windows, the roof line, and garage of our ranch. My husband and I love the look. The price was right compared to other estimates. They offer a variety of materials including vinyl, wood, and James Hardie siding. I forgot to include an item when getting the original estimate and they came out the next day and installed the trim right away. Would definitely use again!"

"The actual work went very well, and the price couldn't be beat. It was the clean up that I believe could have gone better. Some of the siding was not put back properly, and the foam was not cleaned up very well on the outside. Inside, the attic insulation was not cleaned up very well and neither was the foam that was installed in the basement. While the clean up was not to my standards, I would absolutely recommend them to others."

Eifs Installers questions, answered by experts

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

Yes, egress windows can significantly add value to a home. By making basement and attic areas safer and more livable, they allow you to market these spaces as finished living areas, which increases your property's value. Many homeowners can recover the full installation cost, with some sources citing a return on investment of around 70%. The exact value added depends on your specific home, location, and adherence to local building codes. Beyond financial value, egress windows enhance functionality by adding natural light and comfort. They are also a crucial safety feature, often mandated by building codes to serve as an emergency exit.

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.

The proper way to install a window well is to measure the window, dig a hole deeper and wider than the window, place a drainage tube and cap, anchor the well to the foundation, caulk the seam, and backfill the hole. The job requires tools such as a hammer drill and auger and some heavy digging. Proper placement and window well installation are critical to preventing water from leaking into the window.

Yes, you can install a bay window in an existing house. You’ll need to have a structural engineer draw up plans to add the necessary support to your exterior load-bearing walls and a general contractor to make the changes to the framing around the new wall opening. This will cost an average of $3,000. After that work is done, a window installer can set the new bay window in place.
