"I recently had the pleasure of working with Stay Dry Waterproofing and I can confidently say that they are the best waterproofing company in town. From start to finish, their team of experts were professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to my needs. The project manager, Brock, was fantastic to work with. He took the time to thoroughly explain the waterproofing process and answered all of my questions with patience and expertise. He also provided a detailed timeline for the project, which helped me plan accordingly. The installation crew arrived on time and worked diligently to complete the project on schedule. They were respectful of my property, kept the work area clean, and were mindful of noise levels. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the quality of work and level of service provided by Stay Dry Waterproofing. My basement is now completely dry and I have peace of mind knowing that my home is protected from water damage. I highly recommend this company to anyone in need of waterproofing services. They truly deserve 5 stars!"

"After having Ohio Basement Authority waterproof our basement, we proceeded to hire Dan, the electrician they use on their jobs. We needed an updated service panel. Recommended by Jordan, who has remained a constant and reliable resource of information and suggestions to me, as I took on the job of getting my parents home up to date for selling. Dan was very polite and professional! I was immediately at ease after greeting him the first day he came to the house. Once he put his music on and I heard the Eagles playing, I knew he was the man for the job. (My dad is a big Eagles fan!) Dan was informative as to exactly what he needed to do and explained to me the process. Being the holidays, and the City being closed, not being able to come out for inspection, the job took a couple days longer. Dan rescheduled his week, so that he could get electric back on the soonest possible! Thank you Dan! Thank you to Ohio Basement Authority! Truly a customer satisfaction company!"

"Amanda Plumbing was only company that made time available to repair our sump pump on the weekend of 1/13/18 during a Level 2 winter storm. Our basement was flooded. Nate was prompt and professional. He fixed the main pump on Saturday and returned on Tuesday to finish the battery backup. The price was higher due to the emergency service call, but their service was timely and much appreciated."

"They are great to work with. Communication was superior. They stand by their work. A few years ago I had waterproofing done in my basement and this time they spray foamed the cavities of the basement too. Both times they did awesome work and cleaned up too! I highly recommend this company!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Water can seep into porous materials like wood beams, floor joists, and roof rafters within minutes, but they’ll need to see prolonged exposure before you have structural damage. Mold can start growing within 24 hours, and mold can eat away at the structural components over time. Wood rot is more of a concern, though. Wet and dry rot are fungal infections that set in in moist conditions and rapidly deteriorate wood, causing major structural damage within just a few months in some cases.

Mold and other fungi love moisture, so the best way to prevent mold growth after water damage is to remove as much moisture as possible. First, find the source of the water or moisture, such as a leak or clogged gutters, and correct the problem. Next, remove standing water, vacuum up puddles with a shop vacuum, and run blower fans and dehumidifiers for 24 to 72 hours. Once you've removed all traces of moisture, disinfect the area using either vinegar or bleach to kill any remaining mold spores.

Regular inspections, maintaining proper grading around the foundation, and keeping gutters clear are advisable. Vapor barriers and sealants may need checking for wear after several years.

It depends on what caused your basement flooding, the extent of the problem, and the risk of the flood continuing. If your flood is coming from a septic system or sewer line, breathing in the sewer gasses can be dangerous, so you should vacate. If the flood occurs from an ongoing natural disaster, relocating to a safe area might be wise. If you just have a plumbing leak or rainwater coming in, you can likely stay in the house if you don’t have electrical lines down there, but make sure you call in professionals to fix the issue immediately.

It is better to have a crawl space that is tailored to the outside temperature, your needs, and the season. For example, it is much better to have a vented space when it’s very hot outside and your AC bills are sky-high. Conversely, when the temperature drops and humidity rises, it is almost always better to have your vents shut and covered if possible.
