"Our experience with Logan Services was very disappointing. I told Andy (the Logan salesperson) in person and in writing that we would like to keep our analog thermostat, instead of getting a new, smart thermostat (we already have a smart thermostat for an existing system, and we prefer the analog functionality). He said of course. On installation day, the installer informed me that the new system required a smart thermostat. So we had to accept a new, smart thermostat. The detailed quote Andy provided for the replacement of our A/C and heating units included a manufacturer rebate and tax credit that would be refunded to us after the installation. The system we selected would be eligible for a $1400 rebate and a $1200 tax credit on our 2024 return. Three days after our installation, the Logan office called to follow up on the new system. I asked at that time how I could claim the manufacturer's rebate, because there wasn't a form or application in any of the paperwork I received. I was told that Logan would apply for the rebate and I should receive it in 6-8 weeks. It is now more than 8 weeks later, and I have not received anything from Trane. Now Logan claims that the rebate must have already been applied to the cost of our system. This is not true. The price Logan quoted remained the same from the original quote to the final invoice, and it did not include a deduction for a rebate. I do not recommend doing business with Logan."

LiteHouse Services was was quick to get us scheduled for inspection. They took some of that stress away. They not only did they completed inspection reviewed all the appliances, they recorded all make, model and serial numbers for the future needs. John the inspector also pointed out items that need to have a closer look at and gave general maintenance tips. John took the time to go over every part of the house. "Waited a year did all the math showed zero savings whatsoever. Reached out in December 2019 after receiving my November 2019 utility statements and proved no savings. Naturally they never called back or e-mailed it was radio silence. Gave them 2 weeks and filed another BBB complaint in December 2019 to get my 25% reimbursed back to me of what I should have saved, $692. They responded to the BBB claim in early January to inform me they were apparently on a skeleton crew for the holidays and claimed to have told me that (they didn’t, how could they? They don’t respond.) and gave me the cfo’s e-mail to send all my utility statements to. Finally get things moving after several no shows they sent out a tech end of January 2020 to review everything per the agreement, never touched just like it was first installed. He took pictures and said everything looked as intended. (They lied and told him I had electric work or duct work done so he had to verify the system was still in place. No work was done no one had been in the attic since they installed the system) He had forms to hand copy all my utility statements even though I e-mailed everything at the beginning of January. Was told 30-45 days and I’d have my reimbursement. Fast forward past the deadline several more ignored e-mails and phone calls, on March 4th I’m told in writing my refund status was “in process” I’m told my bills were in the wrong format since they weren’t the original paper bills so they had to reach out to get the originals. (The tech never took the bills that I had printed only copied usage and cost, so apparently they switched to my e-mailed ones from months prior that are .pdfs of what a paper bill would be, I’ve never received paper bills no where in any of the paperwork is that a requirement.) Anyways they claim the delay was getting the “originals” which is illegal they can’t request copies from your utilities unless you give the utility permission, I reached out to my utilities (DP&L, Vectren, they were never contacted). After asking about this new requirement radio silence again and has been since since March 10th. Shortly after the e-mail address for the cfo [email protected] stopped receiving e-mails with this message from google (Recipient inbox full Your message couldn't be delivered to [email protected]. Their inbox is full, or it's getting too much mail right now.) So I’d call and leave voicemails twice a month asking for a call back and use their general e-mail to try and get a response. The one nice thing is I did end up getting their BBB accreditation revoked since they never responded to them either. Today June 8th 2020 I got this response from an unnamed individual: “You filed your complaint with BBB before the matter could even be resolved sir, the company is being taken over by another franchise due to owner passing away. Thank you and hope they can help you further in this matter.” Not sure what me filing the complaint has to do with anything since I only did that since they didn’t respond. I went from being told refund was “in process” on March 4th to you didn’t let us resolve the issue before filing with the BBB on June 8th and by the way we’re being sold good luck. Clearly they never had any intentions of honoring the 25% money back guarantee that I have in writing or resolving any issues that I had. Not sure what my next move will be."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

After you receive your audit and report, review the findings and determine which of the prescribed changes you want to make to improve your home’s energy efficiency. Start by contacting the type of professionals recommended by the auditor who can help you remedy the issues discovered during the audit. Prioritize the projects by urgency, importance, and budget. Then, gather estimates from several professionals, remembering to verify any necessary licensing and experience information.

The answer is a resounding yes, as dishwashers save significant water and energy compared to washing dishes by hand. The difference is so drastic in fact that those who use energy-efficient dishwashers can expect savings of over $450 per year. This is because dishwashers use less water, they wash at a higher temperature than a hand rinse, and you don’t need to rinse them after washing. New dishwashers use around 4 gallons per load, whereas washing by hand can use up to 2 gallons per minute.

You can determine what size generator you need by listing the various appliances it will power during an outage. Write down the start-up watt usage, and then add them all together.

A 7,500-watt generator will run your refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits without a problem. However, you’ll need an extra 3,000 to 4,500 watts to run your water heater and another 5,000 to 25,000 watts to run your electric furnace. In these instances, a whole-home generator is your best bet for running your critical equipment.

Typically, triple-pane windows made with krypton gas filling are the most energy efficient. A window’s frame, glass, design, and installation all affect its energy efficiency. These windows, in particular, are designed highly effectively in terms of their ability to insulate.

While installing your new furnace, you should consider hiring a pro to perform a home energy audit . This audit will give you a handy list of any projects you could undertake to improve your home's overall energy efficiency rating, including replacing or sealing windows and insulating the attic. These improvements can help save you money each month in utility costs.
