"REVIEW FOR CARIFA TILE 2/26/2025 CARIFA TILE JUST FINISHED installing beautiful 2-foot by 4-foot tiles in my tub surrounding and it is stunning. From my first call to the final finish, I was well cared for by the staff at CARIFA TILE. Joe Dismuke personally reviewed and refined my wants and needs for the project with me. Though this was a small project I felt CARIFA TILE considered me an important customer. Ciera, the project manager for my job, was hands-on from day one informing me of each step of my installation. Gustavos is a master craftsman who expertly installed my tiles, and I appreciated that his work area was contained and kept clean. I am extremely pleased with the entire job and all of the personnel who helped make it an easy process for me. I gladly recommend CARIFA TILE. Thank you everyone. Linda"

"We are extremely pleased with the work that was done. Tim was very professional, worked in a timely manner and left my house clean at the end of each day. He helped me with the tile design and questioned me, when needed, to make sure he was doing what I wanted."

"Ben was very thorough in his work and honest ,we enjoyed him and his help. We did a whole house remodel. They were on time and discussed every detail with us and shared his advise if he felt I might be making the wrong choice which was very helpful. The wood look tile floor was a huge job and he worked around us so we could stay here till last minute. It is beautiful the kitchen counter tops and backsplash and my shower he tiled are beautiful as well. We recommend him highly all his work is excellent. We highly recommend Ben and Kin remodeling for anything you need."

"My backsplash looks good. The tiler (I forgot his name, sorry),was on time and was very personable. He went right to work and finished the next morning. The tiles were glass so they weren't perfect to fit my space, but he did a good job and I am happy with the results."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes. You can tile over tile if the old tile is in good shape, but this will also create a thicker floor. As a result, you may have to remove and readjust baseboards and other room trimmings and potentially even raise door heights to work with the higher floors. In most projects, it’s best to remove the old tile before installing a new tile floor.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

Glass tile can cost as much as or more than other durable tile types. When choosing the right tile for you, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each can help you make an informed decision. The pros and cons of glass tile include:

Pros

  • Light-reflecting to add brightness

  • Waterproof and mold-resistant

  • Made from recyclable materials

Cons

  • High cost compared to similar and more durable materials

  • Usually requires professional installation

  • More easily scratched compared to materials like ceramic and porcelain

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

If you’re handling your tile removal yourself, seal the room using painter’s tape and heavy-duty contractor bags to prevent dust and shards from escaping. Use a claw hammer or a pry bar and a mallet to get behind the tile and pry it away from the floor or wall. Once your tiles are all removed, sweep everything into contractor bags for disposal, being careful not to overfill them. Make sure you wear a dust mask, safety goggles, and work gloves to keep yourself safe from injury while you work.
