Customers say: True professional

"While in the middle of our home remodel, we had to find another carpenter to build some custom cabinetry on both sides of our fireplace. After searching on Home Adviser and Angie’s List, we came across Brainard’s Woodworking For Your Home and looked at his website. After looking at a variety of cabinetry, my husband and I decided to call him. Derek came to our home to listen to our ideas, take some measurements and provide additional information about his trade. It didn’t take long for him to convince us he was the person for our job. We found Derek to be very precise in his measurements and extremely detailed in his work. Additionally, when he commits to do your job, he does so without taking on another assignment so that he is dedicated solely to your job. The quality of his workmanship is exquisite. He is meticulous in his measurements to ensure a perfect fit. The quality of his workmanship is stellar! He made our custom cabinets so that we could have lighting installed at the top, gave us adjustable shelving, added soft-close doors at the bottom and finished off the top and bottom with moulding for a more luxurious look. More importantly, he built our cabinets with real wood which automatically added value. He also built a mantle that floats on the fireplace stone encased in moulding that matches our existing décor. Derek is professional and communicates effectively with other craftsmen who may be working in your home. He is both considerate and conscientious of your time and others so that his work compliments what others are doing in your home. If you are looking for someone who pays attention to detail, takes his craftmanship serious and delivers a product that exceeds your expectations, then Derek is your carpenter. He is the kind of person and worker that we would proudly recommend to others and would bring back for future projects!"

"My house did not have a dishwasher before so after my dad and I installed one the next question was building a cabinet around it. Nick was very responsive and courteous. He came out on a Wednesday to give a free estimate and the job was completed by 2 pm on Thursday. He was quick, efficient and respectful of my house."

Cabinet Contractors FAQs, answered by experts

Most assemblies take 1-3 hours, but larger units or those requiring wall mounting may take longer.

The cost to install a kitchen island ranges from $900 to $6,500, with an average price of around $4,800. The final cost depends on whether you buy a prefabricated unit or have one custom-built. Prefabricated kitchen islands are generally cheaper. A simple prefabricated cart can cost between $150 and $900, while a permanent, stationary prefabricated island costs from $900 to $5,000. A custom-built kitchen island averages around $4,800 but can cost $10,000 or more depending on factors like materials, size, design complexity, and accessibility.

Yes, garage cabinets are worth it to organize the tools, supplies, equipment, and gear you’ve been storing in the garage. Garage cabinets provide a great way to declutter your space while also preserving your valuables—keeping them free from dust, debris, and various weather elements. Not to mention, garage cabinets also elevate the look of your garage, which can prove beneficial when you’re looking to sell your home.

Yes, stacked cabinets, bulkhead trim, and crown molding are worth it. This look is not only customized and high-end, but you’ll also have the added benefit of extra storage space. And because you don’t need to remove your existing cabinets to achieve this look, you’ll save by not needing to complete a kitchen remodel—which could run between $15,000 and $40,000.

As a homeowner, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your cabinet installer. Once the cabinets are ready for your home, you can do the following:

  • Ensure pets are safely in another room, out of the way of open doors and large moving objects.

  • Clear countertops for removal.

  • Tidy the floor the installers will walk through and around.

  • Prepare to have the installers in your home for the entire day, for multiple days, until the project is done. Expect to have a noisy environment, especially if they will remove old, existing cabinets.
