"The guys from Haines Drains were very polite and professional. They and did an awesome job removing roots from my sewer line and verified their work with a camera. They then followed up with steam cleaning and chemical treatment to prevent future root growth. Would highly recommend this company!"

"They arrived on time. Worked on the sewer pipe, but were not able to clear the pipe. They advised me to call the city about the main pipe in the street. The city did not find any thing in the main sewer. The city cleaned out my pipe with a water jet. The price charged by this company did not fit the amount of work done. But, they did say they would come back if needed by the city."

"As the owner of The Pack, a grooming shop in Germantown, we ended up selecting Flow Force to address our plumbing needs. Upon opening, we discovered that our water heater was insufficient to support our water usage. We also found that Germantown's water is exceptionally hard, leading to the need of an installation of a water softener. Initially, we worked with another company, only to discover that they were overcharging and incorrectly advising us that installing a water softener and a larger water heater was not feasible due to space constraints and would ultimately be too expensive. Consequently, we had to obtain the services of a new plumbing team. Cole and his employees at Flow Force have consistently demonstrated professionalism throughout all projects. He accommodated our business hours, which was a huge help in minimizing disruptions to our business. They surpassed our expectations, and we now enjoy optimal hot water pressure."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Sometimes, the drain is just too clogged—thanks, stubborn hair and soap scum. In this case, you’ll need a more powerful drain cleaner than you can DIY safely at home. But this doesn’t mean you have to choose a traditional drain cleaner.

You can find biodegradable drain cleaners at your local home improvement store or online for those drains that need a little more oomph

While on the hunt for a formidable drain cleaner, the best options are non-chemical clog solutions that combine enzymes and bacteria.

You should hire a sewer service professional to unclog a main sewer line with tree roots. Tree roots can grow into the main sewer line, and this problem requires a specialized hydro jet, or rooter, that is powerful enough to clear the roots. The tree can also damage the main sewer line, and a professional will need to make repairs or replace the damaged sections. Sewer line replacement costs about $60 to $250 per linear foot.

If you’ll be digging up your floor to get access to your pipes when putting in a sewer backflow preventer, this would also be a good time to take care of any other plumbing issues or renovations. For example, you could install additional pipes for a basement bathroom. Since the floor will be sealed over with concrete when you’re done, now’s a good time to take care of those bigger tasks.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.
