This is a multiple phase project as we are removing the old knob and tube wiring and replacing with new Romex. They completed the top floor. Will be using them for the rest of the house as we remove the old wiring."

You can determine what size generator you need by listing the various appliances it will power during an outage. Write down the start-up watt usage, and then add them all together. 

A 7,500-watt generator will run your refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits without a problem. However, you’ll need an extra 3,000 to 4,500 watts to run your water heater and another 5,000 to 25,000 watts to run your electric furnace. In these instances, a whole-home generator is your best bet for running your critical equipment.

Blower door tests are measured in a few different ways, but the most popular are air changes per hour (ACH) and cubic feet of air (CFM) moving through the house per hour. A good ACH score is less than 2ACH, but 1ACH is better. This means the house experiences a total air change within 60 minutes (for 1ACH). For 2ACH, there’s a complete change every 30 minutes, and so on. CFM scores are similar in that a lower score means less air change, and therefore less leakage.

An average, 400-square-foot electric heated driveways consume approximately $3 per hour in terms of electricity. The price may slightly fluctuate depending on your local energy cost. A simple formula to calculate your heated driveway’s total wattage consumption is by multiplying the square footage by 50 watts and then dividing it by 1,000 to get the kilowatt number. Multiply that with your local energy cost per hour and there you have the hourly operating cost.

Depending on property size and audit scope, costs range from $200 to $600.

A blower door test shouldn’t take more than an hour, and most can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Expect the test to take longer once you start searching for leaks with thermal imaging or want to include sealing such leaks in the time estimate. The test doesn’t take much time and can’t be rushed, but it will take longer in large homes or those with many air leaks.
