"Andrew and his crew were very professional, came out and got to work immediately. I saw immediate results before they even completed the project. Would definitely recommend him for all things excavating, drainage (french drain &, sump pit installation) and landscaping issues."

"Shrubs at 2 properties needed to be removed. They were original landscape estimated to be 40+ years old. Two story house needed updated landscaping and retaining wall, single story home needed painted but but unable to access due to shrubs. Thorpe Site Solutions was working near by, I asked them to stop and give us a quote. They were professional and personable, we walked the property, they took photos and asked questions about accessibility to different areas. They were up front with concerns about possible damage to existing flower beds and explained a plan to minimize damage to yard from equipment. i requested shrubs be pulled out vs cut off and stumps ground. Within 48 hrs they sent me a quote for each of the jobs. The next week they started work...they worked non-stop x 2 days to complete the work and haul away all of the debris, they level the landscape where there were holes. No regrets, No disappointments! THEY DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB!!"

"The Crowe employee arrived on time. Was very focused on his work. Was well equipped with the necessary tools. Made sure the fence posts were placed at the proper depth. The sections that I contracted to be replaced were installed by the Crowe employee in such a way that everything was level and straight. Rather than rush the job, he preformed the fence install in two stages, making sure the concrete was cured in the post holes overnight before securing the fence panels to those posts."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.
