"Alex offered a very fair quote and was able to add on to the project at the last second. Land is cleared for the new home build and I will be calling back for my concrete and landscaping after the build is done."

"John and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were done in less than 8 hours. John is very hands on with his crew, he was on site the entire time. He kept us informed throughout the process and fixed any issues he encountered. After they left, we walked around the house to look at our beautiful new roof and noticed they cleaned up every bit of the debris. We highly recommend his company."

"I never thought I would love a garage so much! Every part of the planning and building of our garage by the Great Garage Company was done with precision and everything was done to our specifications and at the exact time and day they said they were going to do it. Every crew they had was very good, and even explained to me what they were doing and other details while they were working. Even the city inspector told me how precise the Great Garage Company is in doing their work. We have had our garage for 6 months now and my favorite thing is hitting the button to open up the garage and walking out there into our brand new structure. It was truly a pleasure working with the Great Garage company, they answered every question we had and even came back and leveled out the dirt around the garage and put patio stones down that had been removed. A plus 100% job all the way!"

"Out of the 4 contractors I considered to rebuild my deck, Joe Nasser was the most impressive. His evaluation of the project was comprehensive -- he took photos of the structure and its foundation and made notes. He listened, really listened to my ideas, and then, instead of handing me a brochure, he sent me directly to his building materials supplier to take a guided tour of deck models so I could make educated choices. Three days later, he sent me a scaled drawing of my deck with a line-itemed list of supplies at wholesale prices. His profit, he explained, was in the cost of labor. Even if his quote hadn't been the lowest of the 4, (it was), I would have chosen him for the job because of his attention to detail. And I'm so glad I did. The deck is beautiful. And he was careful not to ruin my lawn or landscaping. I can't say enough good things about Joe and his crew."

"The yard looks fabulous, the workers were professional and took extra care not to dump the mulch on my new driveway, all without me requesting that, which I really appreciated. It showed me that they were true professionals and care about their customers. The chimney repairs went equally well. The chimney looks great and they cleaned up after themselves really well."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

If you want to make your home eco-friendly, enjoy low maintenance, and love the fact that its looks will take people’s breath away (and not because they were trying to blow your house down), then a modern brick home is right for you. You can hire a mason to get the building process started for your brick home.

But if you’re not fond of the color and don’t want to deal with the process of repointing or other repairs, consider going with vinyl or wood. These materials offer a lower cost. While they tend to require more maintenance, they don’t cost nearly the same as exterior brick house repair.

Builder-grade is one of two types of stock cabinets, whereas semi-custom designs allow homeowners some control over the color, finish, or hardware on their cabinets. Stock cabinets are sold in construction-grade and builder-grade designs. Construction-grade cabinets are usually made from inexpensive medium-density fiberboard, which is prone to moisture damage, whereas builder-grade models are a step up with higher-quality materials. Construction-grade designs are the most common type of cabinets in America.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.
