"Very smooth install. Ed was nice, personable, and timely. He installed the solar lights efficiently and correctly. And they function perfectly. Fee was very reasonable as well. He’s agreed to install similar lights next weekend at our daughter’s home located about 10 minutes away. We’re in the market for a new handyman, so would not hesitate to contact Ed again. Thank you."

With over 12 years of experience in general construction throughout the New England area, I recently relocated to Ohio and am now bringing my skills and experience to homeowners here. "Well, let me just say that John and his team absolutely exceeded my expectations - and I paid less for the project than I thought I would. I don't know how you could ask for better than that. When I asked for a roof to be built over my back deck, I was envisioning just a rough wooden roof. But they made it look like an extension of my house! It is beautiful - not rough at all. They put a metal wrap over the wooden beams - and soffit and fascia that matched my exterior perfectly. I wasn't expecting this and it blew me away. And they did it all for what they quoted me. And each member of the team has a specialty. Charlie the carpenter has the roof up in no time, Tom the painter did a beautiful job, and John, the owner, is more like an artist than a builder, and of course Maddie (the real boss). They took real pride in their work - and that makes all the difference. If you want pictures or come and see it - email me - [email protected]. Proud to show it off."

"I truly enjoyed having Gary work on our project and I plan to hire him in the next few months to do my kitchen remodel. What sets him apart from the rest is his integrity. When he tells you he will call or come over, he does it. His price is his price and all receipts are documented. The quality of his work is excellent!
I did wait over a month for Gary to work on my project, but he is well worth the wait. (Frankly, I take that as a good sign that he is busy because that means he is very good.) He contacted me twice during the waiting period to let me know how far out he was from my project and then called me the week before he planned to start it. I think we have all experienced the no call, no show folks in this industry and it was refreshing to finally have someone who cared about following up with his clients.

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Whether you buy a prefabricated shed or build one depends on why you need it and where you stay. For instance, if a simple garden shed is what you’re after, it’ll be less expensive to buy one already built. But if you want a shed with windows, plumbing, and electric work, a custom-built unit might be more suited to your needs.

Whether it is better to buy or build a chicken coop depends on your priorities, primarily cost versus time and effort. Building your own chicken coop can be significantly more budget-friendly, often costing about half as much as buying a pre-made one. If you have the time and skills, building a coop from scratch is the most economical option. However, if your time or skills are limited, buying a kit and hiring a handyperson to assemble it can be more cost-effective than hiring a carpenter to build a custom coop from scratch. If you want a perfectly constructed coop without sacrificing your own time and energy, buying one is the easiest choice.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.

Rustic and modern farmhouse styles are currently the most popular. These include rustic and antique furniture, muted colors, clean lines, eclectic decor, and natural materials. Some other popular farmhouse styles include the following:

  • Coastal farmhouse: Creates a lighter, airier feel with soft colors and blue palettes, along with gold

  • Colonial farmhouse: Focuses on real antique furniture and decor

  • French farmhouse: Leans on French country architecture and design by including marble and lighter-colored metals, like zinc

  • Industrial farmhouse: Includes thick, chunky furniture and dark metals

  • Scandinavian farmhouse: Usually includes lighter wood colors and more refined furniture
