"Totally understood the work to be done on a 150 year old post and beam barn. Was able to develop solutions for unforseen problems that were encountered. Adhered to the original estimate with some additional work incorporated at an acceptable increase. Very pleasant and professional to deal with. Highly recommend and would hire again."

"Well, let me just say that John and his team absolutely exceeded my expectations - and I paid less for the project than I thought I would. I don't know how you could ask for better than that. When I asked for a roof to be built over my back deck, I was envisioning just a rough wooden roof. But they made it look like an extension of my house! It is beautiful - not rough at all. They put a metal wrap over the wooden beams - and soffit and fascia that matched my exterior perfectly. I wasn't expecting this and it blew me away. And they did it all for what they quoted me. And each member of the team has a specialty. Charlie the carpenter has the roof up in no time, Tom the painter did a beautiful job, and John, the owner, is more like an artist than a builder, and of course Maddie (the real boss). They took real pride in their work - and that makes all the difference. If you want pictures or come and see it - email me - [email protected]. Proud to show it off."

"Gary was a terrific service-provider from the first call forward.  Returned my request for service call promptly, met with me within days to look over the scope of the job, provided suggestions on the spot about the best way to repair what was wrong, was the only person that I brought out who recognized why rot took place at the back of the garage (faulty metal roof installation).
He gave a verbal, charge-by-the-hour estimate and stated an approximate week he would be free to tackle the job.  He came exactly when he said he would and in the span of about 2 and one half days started and finished the job.  He did as good a job on the wood repair (matching the trim, making sure to prime wood properly) as a carpenter would and he completely solved our roof issue by adding a metal stop to the back of the roof, underneath the original flashing (correcting what should have been done when the metal roof was initially installed).   He also did a wonderful job trouble shooting how to fix a decorative element in the front of the garage (a horizontal wood panel above the garage doors that gathered water from the vertical barn board siding above it).  He pulled and replaced that panel and put a drip cap type fix underneath it.
He is versatile and professional.  Worked with his father in-law on the job and had no discomfort doing a lot by tall ladder.  Did a terrific job cleaning up  by bagging all the discarded wood in heavy duty garbage bags so they could easily be placed out on the curb for garbage pick up.  Finally he also took the time to tell us that we had potential issues with carpenter ants.  Even saved the damaged wood so that my husband, who is an entomologist, could look it over and identify the type of ants.  His final price, although not inexpensive, was completely in line with the other 2 estimates I had received.  I certainly feel his work was worth it!

"Fantastic. The price was very reasonable, and they finished all three rooms in a week. The walls were a mess and they did a great job of repairing them and making them smooth. They were also great with my dogs, which was a definite plus. Melvin even gave me advice on taping, painting and fixing up my trim. He definitely went above and beyond - when they saw that I was painting ceilings without an extension pole, Melvin loaned me his spare and even left it with me after their work was complete so that I could finish painting the rooms. He told me to just call him when I was done and he would pick it up. They crew sounded like they had a lot of fun while they were working, which I thought was refreshing."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

You may need a local building permit and written permission from your homeowner’s association to install a shed, especially if you’re doing any substantial land clearing or installing electricity or plumbing. Permit requirements vary between municipalities, so research the local laws before starting your project. If you hire a contractor to build the shed, they can help determine which permits will be necessary.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

Building a tiny house is the least complicated way to build, especially if you’re tackling the project as a DIY. The smaller size means less complex plans, more straightforward utility installation, and fewer ways to make costly errors. Tiny homes still need to conform to building codes and often have other applicable regulations, so be sure to get the proper permits and confirm your build is by the book.

Your foundation contractor will first need to remove the topsoil and any vegetation within 4 feet of the area around the barn. They’ll need to ensure they have clear access to the site to begin excavation, after which they can begin construction.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.
