"John's a stand up guy, which is something I appreciate in a contractor. Very personable, straight shot, and very thorough with his explanations. We had a little delay in scheduling just due to the part arrival and Ohio weather, but nothing major. John and his team got out here and got the leaky skylight replaced in no time. Glad I had him out, and I'd recommend him to anyone. "
"Called Popil Roofing regarding a leak I discovered and requested a quote for a repair. He returned my call the same day and came by that afternoon. Upon inspection of my roof, he told me I had hail damage and should contact my insurance company. Thanks to him, I had the roof replaced at a great discount since the skylights, warped wood and shed were not covered by the claim. He was very busy and was not able to start the job until 6 weeks later. Ed explained the entire roofing system and showed me samples of the materials he would be using. Since I was home I was able to observe the entire process and found Ed and his crew to be very professional. They cleaned up as they worked and you would never know anyone was here. They did a fantastic job and my roof looks great. Highly recommend Popil Roofing. He is an honest, sincere person who really stands behind his product. I am very pleased with the ridge vent installed. It is so much better than the one I had before. I am confident that my roof will stand up to many years of Northeast Ohio weather. "

"All of these things were damaged when a large limb fell from my oak tree. I received a insurance claim check for $850. The estimate I received from another company to repair and replace the chain link was over $600. A few years ago, Jaime did some repair work on my parent's house and did a nice job at a fair price. When I needed an estimate for my own place I called Jamie. He was prompt, gave me a fair estimate and scheduled the work. The construction of the shed I purchased was more involved than he had planned. The shed included a metal interior frame with plastic sides, floor, roof (with skylight). The one I originally had in mind was not in stock and did not have a metal frame. He charged an additional $125 for the extra time it took to put together, which I thought was fair. The chain link looks like new. He replaced the siding in no time flat with a piece of scrap I had kept from the original installation. The job took him and another worker a full day to complete and they returned early the next day to remove the scrap from the old shed. He double checked the lawn for nails and metal debris. I would hire him again. "

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.
Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.
Most homeowners insurance policies cover skyight damage that is caused by hail. Hail damage is considered a covered peril under most standard insurance policies. However, this only applies if your skylights were properly installed. Also, insurance policies vary, so be sure to check your individual policy to see if skylight hail damage is covered.
Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.
