"We couldn’t be happier with the outstanding work our kitchen renovation contractor did to transform our home. From start to finish, her craftsmanship and attention to detail were unparalleled. She replaced our kitchen and laundry room floors, appliances, cabinets, countertops, and even installed a beautifully tiled backsplash wall and a centered island that added perfect touches of elegance. Additionally, she skillfully replaced a window and layered a wall with stonework, complete with a stone sill that provided a stunning accent wall for our kitchen. Her expertise didn’t stop there—she also updated our lighting and plumbing fixtures, ensuring everything was both functional and stylish. Throughout the entire process, she was incredibly attentive, thorough, and meticulous. Any questions or concerns we raised were met with prompt and thoughtful responses, always resolved to our complete satisfaction. Thanks to her dedication and impeccable execution, we now have a gorgeous new kitchen and laundry room that we are exceptionally pleased with. And it arrived on budget. It’s a space that blends beauty and utility seamlessly. We wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a contractor who delivers both excellence and peace of mind. Bravo!"

"We hired Westbrook to do a renovation on our home. The job entailed removing walls, gutting our attic level master bedroom, installing exterior doors, interior painting, adding windows, rebuilding our sunroom that had been taken apart for mold remediation. They also upgraded many aspects of our home including replacing light fixtures, trim, door handles. Dave and his team were a pleasure to work with and completely reliable. They do high quality work. The level of involvement and communication with Dave was really exceptional. He is easily available to reach, and is on top of every detail of the project. I would highly recommend Westbrook Contracting."

"My wife and I were looking for a contractor to remodel our master bathroom. We were looking for someone that was knowledgeable, honest, fair in pricing, and great with communication. Victor from VAP Contracting was exactly that. Victor told us exactly when he would start, what he would need, and always answered any questions that we had. His team arrived every morning on time and was very polite. They were very neat and cleaned up each day and truly did an amazing job! Our new bathroom looks great. Victor stands behind his work and we look forward to working with them again on other projects that we have."

"This was our first ever renovation project, and the other reviews have confirmed the impeccable quality and service by Above and Beyond Contracting.
After about 2 years in our home, we decided that we were tired with a small shower, along with 2 unusually configured closets and a sitting room that didn't work.  In October 2014 we sought multiple bids from contractors, ranging from "you give me a budget, and we will work within it", to $7000 to $40,000.  Bud's bid was near the higher end, but was with clear indication as to why.  It really wasn't a ballpark, it was what it was.  Others' gave the impression that they were unclear as to how much it would actually cost.  Bud presented us with an itemized estimate, that was spot on.  Our initial quote with him was lower, but after great discussion we decided to move walls to make our space work.  Despite the changing of the floor plan, this did not significantly impact timing or budget.  Other contractors told us it would be astronomically different in pricing if we moved a few walls.  This clearly wasn't the case with Bud.  If anything, it was maybe 10% more considering how much work we were performing.
He was flexible with his scheduling.  We were on a strict timeline due to expecting a baby, and he met the timeline as expected.  As soon as we had all of our materials, he was ready to work the same week.  His workers and subcontractors always showed up on time and he had always notified us of any delays due to weather, or other unforeseen circumstances.  The bottom line was that he was flexible with scheduling, and provided an accurate timeframe for our work - approximately 30 days.
Bud worked with us from day 1.  Even before we hired him, he worked with us to map out different ideas or plans as to how to make our space work.

Bud was on site almost every day, which is something that from other contractors you do not see all the time.  He provided the day's gameplay, and expectations for the week.  He went over any changes that needed to be made (which were minimal).  His crew, ranging from his carpenters to the electrician, plumber, painters, flooring, and tile experts were phenomenal.  First and foremost, they were always kind, courteous, and knowledgable in their trade.  They all valued a very clean environment.  My house was NEVER left a mess.  Drop cloths were put down to protect floors, walls taped up for sanding, and the entire workspace was cleaned and vacuumed every day.  Even on demolition days, the space was clean and tidy.  All debris was removed from my premises.

All of the workers/subcontractors were trustworthy.  I trusted every person that came in my home, as they all had a level of professionalism that was above and beyond my expectations.  I felt comfortable leaving my house, and that everything would be safe and well cared for.

Each of the craftsmen/workers were highly skilled in their trade.  I needed not to be nit-picky with the work or finishing touches, as the completed the work right the first time.  They were very helpful if we wanted minor changes.  For instance, while the electrician was here, I requested that he move some switches and coax cable that wasn't in the initial scope of the project.  They were happy to do so, and it did not significantly change our timing, and wasn't an astronomical change to the budget.  We had also provided fancier toggle switches to install, for which they had no issue.  All of the electrical work, lighting, came out perfectly, and Bud designed a lighting scheme that provides a tremendous amount of light for our space.
The electrician's scope of work was to relocate & install 2 closet lights, 1 sitting room light, 2 shower high hats, 4 bathroom high hats, 2 vanity lights, and all associated moving of switches, updating electrical, and GFI for the space.  They had to relocate some switches as work was coming to completion, but did so without difficulty.

As for the other subcontractors:
Joe the Plumber was excellent.  He went through, step by step, as to where exactly we would want each nozzle, volume control, temperature control, etc and made recommendations as appropriate.  All of his work was top notch, to code, and looks perfect.  You can appreciate his expertise with all of the "little things" that he did.  For instance, he knew that the plumbing abutted the wall where I was installing custom cabinets.  He encouraged me to take pictures of the roughed in plumbing with the wall open so that I would avoid the plumbing connections and not create any problems.  I not only took his advice, but also took measurements.  This was so valuable as I was installing the closets, as I would have never known to do such a thing.
The plumber's scope of work included moving the shower drain, shower water lines, tub drain, tub water lines, sink faucet and drainage, moving toilet water line, and moving a large vent pipe.  He also installed all of the bath faucets, fixtures (tub and toilet), and vanity fixtures.

The tile guys did a phenomenal job.  My biggest worry from the whole project was that I wouldn't like the tile job - meaning I wouldn't like my selections, I wouldn't be satisfied with the quality of work, or I wouldn't like the layout (staggered vs brick style vs in line).  From the start of the tiling project all my anxieties were put aside as soon as they started laying the tile.  They were such perfectionists, and always asking questions to ensure that the tile job was exactly what I wanted.  They made recommendations to the style and layout as appropriate, and produced a truly luxurious job.  The tiling ended up perfect, and I can't stress perfect any more.

Their scope of work included installing floor tile in the bathroom, tile with accent around the tub, backsplash over the vanity, and floor to ceiling tile in a large shower with accent wall, and floor.  They also installed the shower bench, and door saddles.
I truly can't say much about the hardwood flooring guys, other than they were in and out in a few hours, and did a perfect job installing hardwood floors in our bedroom.  Didn't interact with them much, as I was out of the house that day.  All I can say is that it was to the standards of the other professionals that completed our project.  Same goes of the painters and sheetrock guys.  I was out on the days they were doing most of their work, so I can only truly comment on the end product, which just like everything else, was perfect.

Last are Vinnie and Miguel.  They were the guys that essentially were in the house almost every day.  The two of them are truly fantastic people, and it is clear by their teamwork that they love what they do.  They did all of the demolition, construction, finish work, and finishing touches.  Just like everything else, all of their construction and attention to detail was phenomenal.  I look forward to seeing them again when it is time for us to finish our basement.

As you will read in other reviews, Bud is excellent at what he does, and is a fantastic person on top of that.  He takes pride in what he does, and only chooses the best of the best to enter your home.  He will provide you guidance, give you examples of "what not to do" to prevent problems in your space.  You can tell that he chose his business name appropriately, as everything that he did in my house was Above and Beyond my expectations.  It is why I will choose and trust him for other renovations, as I know and trust he will get the job done right, on time, and to perfection.  We are so glad we chose Bud for our project, and will have him and his team in our home for other renovations."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Yes, $5,000 is a healthy budget for a DIY bathroom renovation. It can go a long way in making the space more accessible and stylishly spa-like. Providing you stick to modest materials and don’t make any major plumbing or structural changes, you can upgrade fixtures, retile, and add some stylish bathroom accessories and savvy storage solutions to maximize the space.

Labor is the most expensive part of a bathroom remodel. If you’re doing a major remodel, structural changes (such as moving walls) and plumbing reconfiguration can be costly. For a standard remodel, the big-ticket items include tiles and new tub or shower fixtures.

Installing a drop-in tub yourself is possible, especially if you’re replacing your existing tub with a new one of the same size. If you’re replacing a different type of tub, you’ll need to build the structure to hold the new drop-in tub and finish the exposed sides. The structure must be sturdy enough to hold the tub when it’s filled with water, and you’ll need to seal it. If any plumbing work is required, it’s best to call a licensed plumber who installs bathtubs.

Installing a walk-in bathtub can be worth it if it improves the user's safety and independence. However, because walk-in tubs require a large investment, not every homeowner has the means or desire to install one. As an alternative, some homeowners prefer to install a walk-in shower and transfer bench instead. Walk-in showers cost between $1,150 and $8,000, making them far more budget-friendly in comparison.

If your bathtub is in overall good shape with minor scratches, discoloration, or just general wear and tear, it's best (and less expensive) to refinish it.

If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.
