Customers say: Quick response

"This is a long overdue review and brought to my attention by Mike when he requested a review for a retaining wall just completed. Three years ago MFS Masonry reconstructed our pool deck and pool area. I did not know what exactly I wanted except that I wanted it to look great. He has such experience that he was able to suggest a lovely plan for the deck to surround our 16 by 32 in ground pool and river rock for landscaping. His crew worked tirelessly breaking up and removing concrete, shaping and reinforcing for the new concrete deck, and making it look perfect. They were prompt and respectful of our property and completed the job in two or three days. More to point, that pool job was the third time they did a job for us. Can't recommend them enough."

"I am so impressed and pleased with the quality, integrity, and professionalism Rob Capella of Capella Enterprise Landscape Design and Development stands for. This gentleman has the heart of a teacher, along with a love of creating something functional and beautiful. He explained every step of the way what was needed for our retaining wall, and how a retaining wall functions; grading, drainage, equipment needed, etc. The gentleman in his crew worked tirelessly. He went above and beyond to work with us, especially since in digging they hit shale, which was a complete headache for them, and meant the job would take longer. Yes, it did mean that the job would cost more because you can't build a wall on shale, but Rob had thoroughly discussed with us ahead of time that you never know what you are going to find when you dig so we were definitely OK with having to deal with that. He also did what he could to make it work on both ends, and we are eternally grateful to him for that!"

"We are thrilled that we chose LoyalLandscaping, LLC for our custom pool & patio project. Despite the pretty aggressive timeline we had in mind, Roger and his crew consistently met our expectations for reliability, punctuality, quality of work, and communication. They obviously already have a stellar reputation (I researched all their reviews before hiring them), but weâ re proud to add our names to their list of satisfied clients. Right from the first meeting, Rogerâ s genuine love for what he does, and his ability to clearly explain every step of the process to ensure we were comfortable with the plan, was obvious. He was transparent about everything involved (potential obstacles included) and made recommendations for our inground pool and patio based on our goals and budget without any pressure to upsell. We liked that LoyalLandscaping could complete the entire project themselves (pool and hardscaping) so we didnâ t have to coordinate multiple busy contractors on a tight deadline. Roger ensured that we understood every step of the process and he quickly responded to all texts, calls and emails (and believe me, I had a lot of questions about everything, which he patiently answered again and again). He and his team were able to take our vision and run with it, while keeping us actively involved throughout the process, right down to the last detail. LoyalLandscaping did an amazing job of bringing the entire project to life and Rogerâ s personalized customer service proved that they genuinely care about their clients as well as the quality of the finished project. I also cannot say enough about their amazing hardworking crew. Every single person we met was personable, trustworthy, respectful, and provided the highest level of customer service and hard work. They were all kind and courteous and ended up feeling like good friends since they were around our home and family for several months during the project. They always arrived on time (even some weekends to stay on schedule) and worked incredibly hard regardless of rain, heat, poor air quality, blazing sun, etc. If you want a trustworthy company that does high quality work, has excellent customer service and truly wonderful employees, donâ t hesitate calling Roger and his team to make your vision a reality!"

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Through proper drainage solutions and compacting the foundation soil.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Regular inspection for issues like cracks or leaning and ensuring drainage stays clear.
