Small jobs welcome

"Sorry it took so long to write this review, but Mike was great. He used a floor plan I created and engineered our vacation home that came out beautifully. The house is a couple years old now, no problems that I know of, so I would definitely hire him again."

"Mike, the owner of the firm, showed up on Saturday morning immediately after I placed a request to the Angie's list. He reassured he would do a study of the structural design of the railing (steel cable) and send me the confirmation on the very next business day. A very professional and friendly person with a reasonable rate. I highly recommend his service for those of you who could not find a civil engineer when the scope of the job is too small that most big firms are not interested. The entire process has been very pleasant and stress-free."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Structural engineers draw structural plans, which include detailed drawings of the structural components of a home only. Complete house plans will require additional work from an architect or draftsperson, whose drawings will take the structural drawings into account. They’ll also include more details about the finishing materials and layout of a home, including everything from roofing and flooring materials to the position of furniture, light fixtures, switches, and plumbing fixtures.

Generally, you can tell if a home is bolted to the foundation by checking the foundation for plates. If you see that your foundational plates connect to wood or bolts protruding from them, this means that you have a bolted foundation. However, it's always wise to bring a home inspector in to confirm if your foundation is secure.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.

Accurate measurements, sturdy materials, and seamless integration with other structures.

If your home's foundation was damaged due to shifting soil, the same problem will reoccur unless you stabilize the structure by adding posts in the bedrock.
