"I can say hiring Hudson Valley Air Control was a good decision. I contacted 2 other contractors one never showed up the other quoted me on a complete system that wasn't even what I asked for and tried to get me to sign a contract on an Ipad without even disclosing any details or having a proper contract to view. Hudson Valley Air was my 3rd choice of contractors I called. I decided to call in a local guy because the other two were farther away and I feel that it was good to keep it local in case we ever needed service. David Coates came to size up my home for installation of an AC/Heat Pump system by Samsung and answered all of my questions confidently and left me feeling completely at ease with the entire project and came in at a way lower cost than we expected. A single unit outside our bedroom window was a concern because we didn't want the noise from the compressor and fan keeping us awake and David didn't seem to think it would be a problem. When the project was complete I actually had to go outside to even hear it at all. Standing right next to it I thought it wasn't running but indeed it was. Three wall units in the house were supplied by the single outdoor unit. The wall mounted units were high up on the wall and you had to turn the fans up to high to hear any appreciable noise on low you can't even tell their running until you feel the cold air blowing over you! The quality of workmanship was really good and you can see David takes pride in his work. We waited for several years to be sure the Heat Pump technology was mature before we decided to spend the money and we believe David gave us state of the Art equipment at a good price and believe me when I tell you that I am a value oriented person. You will not go wrong hiring Hudson Valley Air Control in Verbank,NY."

"Moved heavy boiler up difficult site. Installed in one day. Very professional and patient in detailed explanations of complex zoning issues. Prices are high in Dutchess Co. compared to other areas of NY. I generally think plumbers are a safer bet for a maintenance plan and longer lasting businesses than most HVAC companies."

"Joe was fantastic. He responded quickly to my inquiry, stayed in touch prior to the repair visit, arrived promptly and quickly resolved the problem with my central AC. His fee was very fair. Previously another HVAC company (not from Home Advisor) told me the unit was unrepairable and needed to be replaced. I highly recommend Joeâ  s company All-in-One for your HVAC, plumbing and electrical service."

"The polar team was excellent. They showed up on time and got the work done in a clean, quick, and efficient manner. They made sure everything worked properly and explained everything in detail before departing. Hired them for HVAC work and will probably hire them again for plumbing. Highly recommended!"

"We finished our basement last year. At that time we upgraded our existing furnace so that we can heat both main floor and basement. Another HVAC contractor (not Bell Heating) performed this task and added two zone dampers for the two floors. After this work was complete, the main floor was always overheated. Since the original heating contractor refused to fix this problem, I contacted Bell Heating. George from Bell Heating explained that the zone damper for the main floor is stuck at open position blowing hot air all the time. The original zone damper was in a very difficult to reach position above a corridor and there were gas and drainage pipes surrounding it. George and his supervisor worked very hard to cut ductwork to extract the old zone damper and patched the hole. They ordered a new one to replace it. When the new one arrived, they placed the new zone damper in a position which can be easily accessed. This work involved repeated visits from Bell because the damper was not a size that is readily available in market. Now everything is working fine and main floor heating is again controlled by the thermostat as it should be. I am very pleased with Bell heating for fixing this problem."

"We can't say enough about The Belunek Company. Dave (the owner) provided us with a detailed report of his service along with a very fair price for his services. Our drainage system was damaged which led to flooding of the drains around our house. Then, you guessed it, we battled with flooding in our basement. He did a fabulous job and respected our property from beginning to end. He gently removed and replaced hedges that impeded the repair. The repair was reseeded and the hedges were mulched after he replaced them. The job is finished and he left the work area better than he found it. We received quotes for 5 times as much for half the work. Don't look any further for quality work at a price that is more than reasonable."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.

If you’re trying to buy a new AC unit, there are a few crucial factors to consider. Look at the cooling capacity, the available warranty, the energy efficiency, and the type of unit. A ductless unit will cost more up front but may be a more viable option if you don’t already have ductwork. Additionally, a unit with better energy efficiency will cost less to run overall, saving you money on your monthly energy bill.

Some of the signs of HVAC issues include rising energy bills, rooms not cooling or heating properly, loud noises when in operation, and signs of condensation. To illustrate, if you’re wondering how to stop condensation on air vents, you’ll need to have your HVAC inspected.

A one-stage air conditioner only has one setting, while a two-stage air conditioner has a high and low setting. A two-stage air conditioner costs between $500 and $2,500 more than a traditional air conditioner, but it has a longer lifespan and helps to increase energy efficiency. To make this decision, you should consider your energy needs and available budget.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.
