"We were extremely pleased with the entire process of having a new roof installed. Ron was very pleasant and promptly came to our house. He gave us a very fair estimate, from which he later subtracted the promised discount for mentioning Angie's List. His crew was prompt, pleasant, and professional. They worked steadily and cleaned up the surroundings not only after the first day, but after the second and final day. Everything was done to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend the company."

"American Heated Gutter Systems installed our gutters and heater hoodies in 2012. Very happy with everything, but now needs some maintenance and looks like the company is closed. Does anyone know if it was sold? Does it operate under a different name? How can I get some repair work done to the heater hood? Any information would be a great help."

S. Taylor Construction is a certified Select ShingleMaster contractor. We have over 30 years experience in all types of roofing. We offer quality work at a reasonable price.

"We were very pleased with this company. My mom's house had two issues that needed to be addressed. 1. Roof repair due to leak - winter 2017. 2. Peak repair due to tree falling - October 2018. I discussed with Scott and decided entire roof replacement in Spring / Summer 2018 with a peak repair & heat cables in November 2018 just to get us through winter. They just finished complete tear off and replacement last week. His crew was at my mom's three long, hot days and did a fabulous job. They were professional at all times, cleaned up their work at the end of each day and the roof looks awesome ! They answered any and all questions I had but one of the things that really stuck with me was that they also reviewed gutters and found one gutter had a piece that butted down to the bottom gutter and thus was totally filled with debris. I was going to ask them to leave it and I would take care of it (I did not think kit was part of their job) but they said Scott has them review these too because a gutter that does not function properly can damage the integrity of the new roof. Bottom line - they fixed it !!!"

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

While DIY is possible for small areas, professional services provide fast, efficient removal for large properties or heavy snowfall.

Snowblowers come in three different sizes: first-, second-, and third-stage blowers. Each additional stage is larger with higher intakes, more powerful, and has more gear options.

A first-stage blower, also called a snow thrower, is usually best for snow 6 to 8 inches or below. Electric snow blowers are usually only available in this size. If you regularly get snow that’s well above six inches, consider a second-stage snow blower. If snowstorms dump 2 to 3 feet of snow repeatedly during winter, you need a third-stage snow blower to tackle it.

It’s possible to use a torch to melt ice on your garage door, but we don’t recommend it. It’s very easy to bring the flame too close to the door, which can melt the weather stripping or even the garage door itself. You’ll melt ice quickly with a torch, but the damage you’re likely to cause can end up costing you a few hundred dollars to fix, which isn’t worth it. Instead, we recommend pouring hot water over the frozen area or using a less intense heat source, like a hair dryer or space heater.

You should check with your insurance provider, but generally, ice dam removal is not covered by insurance, as it’s considered a preventable issue. However, damage from ice dams may be covered by your policy, including roof collapses. In the case of leaks, your belongings may or may not be covered. If you can’t find specific information on ice dam removal in your policy, give the insurance company a call and find out.

Costs depend on property size, snowfall frequency, and additional services like de-icing or hauling snow offsite.
