"We wanted to finish our basement but was hesitant bc of our flooding problems. Home healthy homes solved that for us. They came in waterproofed and removed all mold. We have had heavy rainstorms since and no more floods! Glen and the team are so professional and could not be more helpful. They are reasonable and worth every dime! Highly highly recommend!! "I hired Long Island handyman construction group to remodel a 400sf basement and bathroom in Melville. They were priced in the middle compared to other bids. I picked them thanks to their out of the box advice which saved me thousands of dollars. There was one problem with the plumbing which cost an extra 1800 dollars. The owner settled with me 50/50 even though it was a pre-existing issue. The project was started early and completed early. All mess was cleaned up and the crew was very friendly and fully aware. Very reputable guys and very easy to deal with. Thanks Moises and Eddy."

"TJ stopped in on time as scheduled, and kept working on the pipe blockage numerous times until it was cleared. It was a difficult task but he ultimately conquered the problem and now the tub drains perfectly."

"Had a backup a few days before and wanted to determine if it was a simple clog or cesspool related. They sent out a tech (Jimmy) the same day. He located both cesspools and walked me through my options. He was honest and patient, answering all my questions along the way."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

A leak under your foundation from a water supply line or sewage line is likely to lead to water pooling on certain areas of your property during rainfall, abnormally fast-growing or green grass in certain sections of your lawn, and differential settlement of your foundation, which can result in large foundation cracks, windows and doors failing to operate properly, a wavy or sloping roofline, or damages or irregularities in your interior walls, including cracks and bulging. If it’s a plumbing line embedded in your slab, you’ll also likely notice above-average water bills.

The most challenging part of finishing a basement is addressing moisture control. Basement waterproofing is an essential task that requires a professional’s skills and knowledge. If you don’t properly waterproof your finished basement, it’ll be vulnerable to dampness, water damage, and mold growth. Ensuring proper insulation and ventilation to combat these issues while meeting building codes adds complexity to your remodeling project.

Underfloor insulation alone will not cause moisture and mold, but improper installation can. Although the purpose is to seal any drafts, your subfloor still needs ventilation. If you seal the area too tightly and prevent all airflow, this can cause moisture to get trapped. This moisture eventually leads to mold and—if your floors are wood—rotting.

Yes, water coming up from the floor should be treated as an emergency. If you're unable to either identify or stop the source of the water on your own, contact an emergency plumber right away. In addition to harming your flooring, standing or pooled water can lead to water-damaged concrete.

External pressure on the basement wall can cause it to bow inward. Soil, heavy with water saturation, is commonly the main culprit. The soil exerts immense pressure on the wall, causing it to fail, at least partially. This is known as hydrostatic pressure—these situations can occur after rainfall or simply due to regular groundwater presence and may be temporary or more permanent.
