"I love my backyard! John Starkie drew up the landscape design plans and kept me informed before, during and after planting. All work was completed in only 2 days including a repair to my patio pavers. He is passionate and educated about what he does and makes sure you know how to maintain your landscape. Johns crew removed a tree stump for free just to improve the look of the project. All work exceeded my expectation!!!"

"I initially hired RVR Landscaping and construction as my landscaper in July of last year when the contractor I had as my landscaper went out of business. I submitted a review and was very pleased with all aspects of his work. Renzo Vargas was personable courteous punctual and his pricing was fair, I was completely happy with his company. When fall came I contacted HomeAdvisor looking for a residential snow removal contractor and you were unable to provide one. In the course of conversation with Renzo I mentioned that I was in need of a snow removal contractor and did he know anyone in the business. Renzo said he wasn't in that line of work but would take me on as a client for this season. I explained that due to age and physical limitation I would need his service everytime it snowed not just when there was over three inches, Renzo agreed and a agreement was struck. I am very pleased to tell you that I couldn't have picked a better contractor. He has showed up after every snow fall and done an outstanding job cleaning the sidewalk, driveway both my cars and the front and rear stoops and walkway to the rear of my house. I never have to call looking for him he shows up shortly after the snow stops and was even here twice last Saturday when it snowed Friday night into Saturday morning and again Saturday afternoon, he even puts down ice melt if I have it on hand when conditions warrant. Indirectly you did provide me with a residential snow remover for my property so for that I sincerely thank you. RVR Landscaping and Contracting might now be interested in other clients for residential snow removal."

"We have used Peter for almost 20 years at two different residences. He transformed our backyard and our property with complete landscaping services along with hardscape for pool, patio and brick steps. He is very responsive and willing to do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. His masons and workers have been with him for YEARS and their skill is unmatched. Would highly recommend."

"If anyone has read my reviews in the past, one would know that I hold NOTHING back. Since May of 2020, I have been embedded in the worst home owner's improvement experience in my 44 years of life on this earth. I would not even get into detail on this review, as it would be an insult to even mention other companies names with Castro Rivera. Castro Rivera is like no other company I have dealt with. I knew from the very moment I reached out that I had found someone very special. They basically took my nightmare and turned it into a dream come true. They were the final "step" so to speak in having my property "reconstructed" after the DISASTER that 2 other companies left me with. I dealt with Mike and Juan from Castro Rivera, and I am not sure who was nicer. In a nutshell, they were young, yet two of the most professional men I have ever dealt with. Juan responded IMMEDIATELY to my request (which by the way was at like midnight while I was desperately searching for a landscaper). I would not expect this to be the norm, although it would not surprise me on bit if Juan answered at all hours of the night. Mike and Juan revamped an entire section of my backyard, leveled out mounds and mounds of mud, planted beautiful trees and perennials, and laid sod down (not only in the areas requested, but he had extra and I walked out to the most amazing surprise to see other areas groomed and perfected). Each time they said they would be here, they were here. They were on time, worked hard, cleaned up beautifully, and their final project came out flawless. I have found a new company to address all of my landscaping needs. Please believe me when I say there are crazy, unprofessional contractors out there that are capable of ruining your home! It happened to me as 2 companies destroyed my backyard attempting to build a simple cement patio. Castro Rivera Landscaping saved the day...and you have an entire family who are forever grateful!"

"I had a great experience with Carry Landscaping. Once we agreed on a design, they were at my house within two weeks. The prices were fair and we are happy with the pavers that we picked out. The job only took 3 days and the results look GREAT. They are everything we wanted. I could not be happier with the work that Carry Landscaping did, and I would absolutely hire this pro again."

"Our experience with Polanco Bros Landscaping was amazing. The owner Hugo and his workers were all very professional, kindhearted and the final results far exceeded our vision for our front yard. We've had neighbors stop us and talk to us for the first time since we moved to Queens. This is how breathtaking the landscaping results turned out to be, that people who never spoke to us, found a way to tell us how amazing the work was. Thank you to Polanco Bros Landscaping for making this an unforgettable experience that will last for a lifetime! The flowers are already blooming nicely. It was money well spent, an investment into the beauty of our home."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.

If you don’t like the way your empty drainage ditch looks, reach out to a local landscaping professional to discuss your options. They may be able to liven it up with plants, stones, bushes, or other decorative elements. You can also add your own landscaping, but you should first make sure that it won’t block your ditch or prevent it from operating effectively.

Multiple rules of thumb exist when discussing tree planting. When planting a tree, the best rule of thumb is to provide it with everything it needs to survive and thrive in its new environment. That may mean learning about the type of tree you're planting and studying the best methods of taking care of it before purchasing and planting.

How much 4 yards of dirt will cover depends on how deep you want the soil to be. In general, a yard of dirt will cover 324 square feet for a 1-inch depth or 100 square feet for a 3-inch depth. Therefore, you can expect 4 yards to cover between 400 and 1,296 square feet if you keep your soil depth between 1 and 3 inches.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.
