"These guys did a Great job!!!! Enzo was fantastic!!. They are priced right and will work with any budget you have. I have used them twice now for a basement floor, bathroom floor and new marble kitchen backsplash. I would highly recommend them for any project you need. Neat and cleaned everything up before he left. Very detailed, trustworthy and friendly. An absolute pleasure to deal with and the work came out better than expected. We plan to do the kitchen floor next and will not even think about using anyone else."

"My wife and I were looking for a contractor to remodel our master bathroom. We were looking for someone that was knowledgeable, honest, fair in pricing, and great with communication. Victor from VAP Contracting was exactly that. Victor told us exactly when he would start, what he would need, and always answered any questions that we had. His team arrived every morning on time and was very polite. They were very neat and cleaned up each day and truly did an amazing job! Our new bathroom looks great. Victor stands behind his work and we look forward to working with them again on other projects that we have."

Small jobs welcome

"The NY Group Construction renovated 2 bathrooms in my home in Elmsford, NY. They were professional, conscientious and worked hard to complete the job in 7 days, as we had agreed. They removed old tile in the walls and floor, they ripped out the floor and found the leak and repaired it to our relief. They removed old sinks, toilets, vanities and moved electrical outlets. Their team noticed a separate pipe in the garage that needed repairing. I highly recommend them. M. Blake"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

The best trowel for penny tile is a 3/16-inch-by-5/32-inch V-notch trowel. Because of the small size of the penny tile, you want a trowel with small notches that can lay a thin layer of mortar on the surface you’re tiling. If the notches are too wide, you risk applying too thick of a layer of mortar, and it can squeeze out between the penny tiles.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.

The cost depends on the type of natural stone. High-end stones can cost as much as porcelain, but it depends on the specific material. For example, the cost of flagstone pavers is typically $2 to $6 per square foot, which is much more budget-friendly than porcelain. Outdoor slate tile can cost as much as $35 per square foot, which is about the same as porcelain.
