"Rio Tinto were excellent. A very well skilled crew. Worked for two and a half days. Cleaned up each day. Went out of there way to make sure the project was to my liking. They even helped me out with a loose piece of siding on the house. A professional job all around. Very happy with the project. I would highly recommend them ."

"Matt did a great job bringing our oversized deck back to life. Cleaning, sanding, minor repair and painting. However. the job required additiaonl costs that were not realized, so we waved the costs off. Overall, very please with Matt's professionalism, communication and personality. I am considering Matt fo additional work at my house and highly recommend Matt him."

"Randy and his team are top notch professionals. I have been using RG Painting for over 30 years now. I have had them do multiple jobs both at my house and my rental properties. The are very neat. Very efficient and reasonably priced. I recommend RG Painting very highly and will continue due to use them for my projects."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.

Be careful when choosing a product to help you remove ice from your wood deck. Never use sand, gravel, or salt, since these items can damage and scratch the wood. Instead, look for chemical de-icers that are marked as safe for wood decks or use hot water to melt snow and ice.

Composite decking is the best material for individuals living with disabilities who want to age in place. The material is anti-slip, which increases safety throughout the year. It’s also highly durable and requires minimal maintenance, so it doesn’t add another item to the individual’s to-do list. It’s also a good option for improving wheelchair accessibility at home, as it can easily manage a wheelchair ramp.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.
