"We had an excellent experience with Wonder Windows. The young man who replaced 28 windows in our double house (Brian) was punctual, efficient, friendly and polite. We were amazed at how quickly his excellent work was done."

"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"Because of a financing program available from my employer, my window project required some additional clerical efforts. The staff at C Michael was very helpful. Great windows. Not the cheapest option, but I feel they are worth the value."

"The installers were great. The salesperson made promises that he did not keep and he missed a window. When the person came to measure he also didn’t catch that I was having all my windows done except one. The windows look great. The response when I notified the co that one window was missed was very fast but added to my cost."

"compleI was very happy with our initial talks with John at Graves Bros.  He did a great job of explaining what they would be doing and the options we had.  It didn't hurt that they came in with the lowest estimate of all the companies we had contacted.  A few weeks later we got a call to schedule the roofing job, but we were going out of town for a few days so I was told they would call us the next week to give us a definite date.  We were a bit surprised when they showed up the day after we returned to do the roof as we did not receive any word that they would be coming that day.  However, they did a great job and were able to remove the old roof and complete the new one within the day!  The did a pretty good job of cleaning up afterwards though there was still some debris around the yard. A few days later they repaired a gutter we were having a issue with and a few days after that came to install the windows. It took them about an hour to remove/install the windows and they look/work great! Also they took my Angie's List coupon even though I did not present it at the time of contract signing(which it says on the coupon, oops).  In all they were very responsive, affordable, and did a quality job! I would definitely hire them again for any home improvement projects we have.

"Excellent service, quality materials, professional, fast, clean. The best choice of 3 options. Very satisfied with the entire experience of full tear off of cedar plus two layers of asphalt shingles and replacement of 3 skylight windows."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, you should clean your windows and any associated fixtures and treatments every six months. Otherwise, clean them as needed to keep everything running smoothly. If you live in a part of the country with especially hard water, you may have to clean them three or four times per year, and the same goes for areas where insects, pollen, dirt, and other debris can soil your windows and potentially cause issues with the moving parts.

Vinyl windows have a few cons to consider before installing. For instance, while vinyl windows are energy efficient in terms of maintaining your home’s temperature, the actual process of making vinyl windows involves chemicals that are harmful for the environment. Vinyl windows are also less customizable than some other types of windows.

Whether you need a permit to install a bay window depends on the project's scope. Replacing an existing bay window typically does not require a permit. However, if you are adding a new bay window, requirements can vary. Adding a new bay window to the front of your house usually requires a building permit, while adding one to the side or back of your house often does not. It's always best to check with your local municipality to confirm the specific requirements in your area. Additionally, if you live in a historic district, you should consult your neighborhood association to ensure your project complies with their construction guidelines. If you're unsure about the process, a professional can provide guidance.

A double-hung window features two operable sashes, meaning it has an upper window part and a lower part that can both open to let in fresh air. A picture window has one fixed glass panel that doesn’t open. Double-hung windows cost about $200 to $2,500, while picture windows cost about $200 to $1,900.

Replacing basement windows can be worth the cost if replacement is necessary. If your windows are leaking and leading to water damage in your basement, it’s absolutely worth replacing them. Similarly, if your basement windows are no longer insulating your basement or pose a security risk, you need to replace them.

In some cases, you may be able to save money by repairing a window instead of replacing it. A contractor can help you decide the right course of action.
