"My husband and I reached out to sunset roofing for an estimate on our roof, for a total tear off. Roman came out to do the estimate and answered all my questions showed us our options and went though everything. We contacted him a few days later to set up the job and he was out to help us with some minor details. From the very beginning he showed wonderful customer service and he was definitely a customer advocate, which really sold me to go with Sunset Roofing. He had us on the schedule very quickly, and the entire process took less then 2 weeks from getting the estimate to having the roof replaced. We are so happy with the work that was done and would highly recommend them. When searching for a new roof I would definitely consider at least getting an estimate from Sunset Roofing. Again thank you to Roman the Forman Aiden and the entire Sunset crew. - Brittany and Richard Turner"

"We had our roof completely replaced and we feel very fortunate to have met Joe from Buffalo’s Best Roofing to walk us through the work they would do for us. He helped us select a beautiful shingle to match our existing siding. From start to finish we couldn’t be happier. Thank you to the crew at Buffalo’s Best Roofing."

"Stellar roofing did a fantastic job with the roof. They did a full tear-off of the old roof and replaced it with a metal roof. It looks fantastic and have already received compliments on the new roof."

"Matt and his crew were great. Very professional. I got other quotes and Tall Pines was the best. I was really nervous about such a big project but Matt kept reassuring me everything was going to be fine. And he was right. I now have a beautiful new roof that I am very proud of."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You can put new shingles over old shingles, but most municipalities only allow for two layers of shingles before you have to rip off the old roof and start fresh. In some areas, only a single layer of shingles is allowed due to the weight a bundle of shingles adds to your structure. In most cases, it’s a good idea to remove your old shingles before you install new shingles, especially if you suspect that a roof leak may have compromised the decking underneath.

Costs depend on material, labor, and additional features like underlayment or insulation.

If your roof has storm damage, there will be some telltale signs. These include missing, loose, or damaged shingles. You may notice cracks or dents on the metal parts of your roof, like flashing, gutters, or metal panels. Water leaks are another big indicator. So are visible signs of impact. Rather than climb up on your roof to check, hire a professional to inspect the area  safely.

Whether a metal or shingle roof is better for you depends on your preferences. Standing seam metal roofs require little to no maintenance, but if you install a screw-down metal roof where the fasteners are exposed, the gaskets on the fasteners will dry rot and need to be replaced. Generally, screw-down metal roofs need to be re-screwed every 15 to 20 years.

Metal roofs are energy-efficient and have extended warranties, while asphalt shingles are less durable than most. They tend to lose color and get damaged over time, and absorb heat from the sun.

A cool roof is any heat-reflecting roof that rejects solar energy more efficiently than traditional roofing (staying about 50 degrees cooler). Thanks to this ability, a cool roof will make your home cooler on a hot, sunny day. Cool roofs come in a variety of materials, including asphalt, wood, or polymer shingles, clay or concrete tiles, metal, and more.
