Serving Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Westchester. Fully licensed and insured.

"My driveway fell apart within days. The company is non-responsive to a warranty claim. It wasn't installed properly, and the gravel started flaking off immediately. It is already leaving depressions which will only get worse after winter. I have been chasing this company for months with vague promises they will look into it. Their last response was for me to sealcoat the driveway - at my expense! - which would only cover up the damage. I am pursuing a claim in court. Avoid this company if you don't want to have to do this."

US Chimney Corp Limited Lifetime Warranty for stainless steel relining pipes for wood, coal, oil, and category I gas appliance applications. Must be cleaned and inspected by US Chimney Limited Warranty Coverage US Chimney Corp warrants to you (the “Purchaser”) that for the period set forth below, the double wall stainless steel liner installed by US Chimney Corp shall be free from defects in material or manufacturer’s workmanship. Warranty Term - The benefits of this warranty shall apply to you (the “Purchaser”) for your lifetime, provided that you continue to own your home where the US Chimney Liner is installed. In all events, even if you sell your home, US Chimney will honor the warranty for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase so that even a new owner will benefit from any years remaining at the time you sell your home. Warranty Conditions - The US Chimney Corp warranty is subject to the following conditions: use of this pipe for venting gas appliances is limited to Category I appliances; the Liner/Chimney Flue must be cleaned and inspected on an annual basis by an experienced chimney professional, (i.e., at intervals of no more than 12 months each, commencing from the date of purchase). Yearly maintenance receipts for proof of service will be required at the time of warranty work. Corrosive chemical chimney cleaners must not be used; driftwood, wood, or wood pellets containing salt, preservative treated lumber, plastic, and household trash must not be burned in the appliance. Chimney Lining Resources - Your chimney may need relining if one or more of the following are true: Your chimney was built without a liner. Your current chimney liner is cracked or damaged. You are changing the usage of the chimney. You wish to upgrade to modern safety standards. Many options exist for chimney relining, the three primary methods are: Clay Flue Tile Replacement- Ceramic clay flue tiles are most commonly found in chimneys venting an open, wood burning fireplace. Many times the chimney contains a second or even third flue which is frequently used to vent the furnace and water tank. Clay tiles come in a variety of square, rectangular, and round configurations and stand 24 inches tall. They are stacked on top of each other inside the chimney and must be given space to expand and contract between the brick walls of the chimney. Often, the damage to these flues is contained in the top 2 or 3 sections making replacement relatively easy and inexpensive. However, a chimney fire or other thermo generated shock may cause the liner to crack much lower in the chimney. If this is the case it often makes more sense to install a factory built and warranted stainless steel liner or a complete cast in place system. Factory Built Stainless Steel Chimney Liners - Factory built chimneys are currently the standard in new construction. Double wall galvanized chimneys, Type-B vents, have been used for decades with gas fired boilers and furnaces. This type of pipe is also used for direct vent gas fireplace. Stainless steel chimney components are frequently used to vent wood burning fireplaces and stoves in addition to oil fired furnaces and boilers. Lighter weight Stainless Steel components can be used for high efficiency gas furnaces and water tanks. These liners are inexpensive and often required when venting gas appliances into a masonry chimney. Your chimney was built without a liner A single wall brick chimney is extremely hazardous. The purpose of a liner is to protect the house from heat transfer to combustibles. An unlined chimney allows enough heat to transfer through and ignite wood structures in just a few hours. Liners also protect the chimney structure from the corrosive byproducts of combustion. If the flue gases penetrate to the brick and mortar the usable life of the chimney decreases. Flue gases are acidic and literally eat away at the mortar joints from inside the chimney. Heat tra...

We offer full service chimney service and repair. We also have a retail store which we sell and install gas, wood, and pellet stoves, fireplaces, and inserts.

"Total Chimney installed a new stainless steel cap over my three flue chimney. An initial misunderstanding about price was quickly and fairly resolved with the owner. The three crews which came to my house were all very professional, although the lead tech at the first visit did not measure, so the special order cap did not fit and a second one had to be ordered. During the whole process, my phone calls to the office were quickly returned and communication was excellent. I am very pleased with how everything was handled and recommend Total Chimney."

FAQs for chimney sweeping projects in New York, NY

While it’s possible to sweep your own chimney, it’s usually not a good idea for two reasons. First, inexperienced DIYers are more likely to miss areas of the chimney, which still leaves the risk of house fire due to the remaining residue. Second, chimney sweeping seems like a simple process, but it’s highly dangerous. Soot and creosote are both carcinogenic and can cause breathing issues and lung damage. If you don’t take the same safety precautions that professionals do, you could be putting yourself at risk of serious bodily harm.

You should plan to ask your chimney sweeper questions about the cleaning process they intend to use, the project timeline, and more to get a sense of which professional is right for the job:

  • What is your process for cleaning chimneys?

  • How long will the process take?

  • Will you protect my floors from soot and debris?

  • Will you do a chimney inspection, too?

  • Do you have certification from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) or the National Fire Institute (NFI)?

  • Will you need access to my roof?

The average cost for a professional chimney cleaning is around $250, but prices range from $130 to $400 or more, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on your total include the size of your chimney, the number of chimneys cleaned, and how accessible the chimneys are.

In some cases, you don’t need to do anything to prepare for chimney sweeping, but professionals always appreciate leaving the area clean and easy to access. As such, it’s a good idea to move fireplace accessories like screens and fire tending tools out of the way, and lay down tarps of drop cloths around your fireplace opening to help keep your floors clean. Laying down a plastic sheet under those cloths or tarps is a good idea if your fireplace is surrounded by carpeting, just to add extra protection. Finally, secure any pets or children away from the work area.

The National Fire Prevention Agency (NFPA) recommends chimney sweeping once per year as a means of avoiding house fires and massive property damage. Over time, creosote and soot build up in your chimney from burning wood and a lack of ventilation. These compounds are both highly flammable, which means a build-up of them inside your chimney puts you at an increased risk of house fire. Chimney sweeping removes any residue and helps reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury from fire.
