"Frank's crew expanded my driveway footprint, built beautiful stone retaining walls, and finished the job with the best paving work I have seen. A tip of the hat to the crew that was hard working and polite, and who worked through the extremely hot weather of late late August. Best Value out there. Thanks for the great work!"

"Last spring I decided to build a new stone patio and kitchen and selected Elite Development to do our project. They were not the cheapest but it was clear to us that these guys know what they are doing. From layout, to construction, to final turf and plantings they knocked it out of the park. Could not be happier and would not hesitate to hire them again. Alan F"

"The team helped us through one of the worst situations. Our home was severely damaged and flooded by Superstorm Sandy. We needed someone to help secure the existing structure, help oversee the insurance process and do the rebuild and remodel. We were very appreciative of the diligent work of this firm. They helped create a better design to prevent future flood risks, remodeled the house in full, and did it within our budget with insurance. In the beginning there were many nights where the team pulled all nighters."

"This the 2nd time I hired William. In 23 years of hiring contractors for home improvement projects, I have not come across a better contractor. William built a stone wall and field stone patio for me as well as reshaped my driveway. Thanks to his expert suggestions and artistry with his excavator, my project turned out better than i ever imagined. He showed up and finished on time and on budget. And every time he saw me, his first question was a genuine how are you?; followed by are you happy with the work? William wants to make certain you are happy in the end. I have not a single criticism of his work on this project (or the first one he did for me 2 years earlier), and I would recommend him without any reservation whatsoever.I have several more outdoor projects to complete in the next year. Given William's expert work, his dedication to customer service, and his very good value for the money, I will certainly look to him to complete these as well."

Excavating FAQs, answered by experts

Digging out a basement takes anywhere from a few days to a few months. Most projects take at least two to five weeks, but it could take several months if you encounter obstacles. This project takes longer if you need to brace or raise your home before the excavation. Digging out a basement in new construction can take as little as three days.

Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.

A crawl space can be as little as 42 inches below the grade of your house, but this is not always recommended in flood-prone areas. At a minimum, there must be at least 16 inches of clearance between the ground and the floor joists to access the space in an emergency.

Errors in site preparation can lead to structural failures or appear costly midway. Professionals ensure detailed, reliable home base development layouts.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.
