The entire job only took one day. Wayne and his team did an excellent job. I can highly recommend Barrier. They came back ASAP to fix a problem with a underground wire that broke during the removal and add more top soil to the site as a result of settling.

absolutely flawlessly. From the initial contact to the proposal to the organization of the job to the follow up to the results - it could not have been more professionally handled. Wayne and his crew are not only reallty good at what they do - they are polite, nice, cooperative and responsive. Its a very stressful situation waiting to see if the oil tank in the ground is leaking and if there will be much more added expense. The whole thing was as stress free as possible. Great experience.

We had a unique situation where our oil tank was underneath an architectural pillar, and abutting the concrete foundation of our house. Wayne was exceedingly careful with the process, made himself overly available to my multiple calls/concerns. Additionally, he was able to perform the work within a week of calling him, which was most important with a pending closing on the house. I would unconditionally recommend Wayne to anyone considering tank removal and associated work.

Barrier provided expert advice and service! We needed an underground oil tank removed, and a new one installed the same day, before being able to close on our new house. We worked with Barrier to determine an optimal timeline, and they were able to make the necessary preparations, in order to expedite the process. We will definitely consider Barrier for future projects!

We needed this done quickly before our closing. Had a discussion on how to do this with minimal damage to the landscape, in a very tight area. They were able to do the job on time, very little affect on lawn and bushes, for a reasonable cost. I would highly recommend them.

I dealt with Wayne Jr. and have nothing but good things to say about him and his firm. From first contact he was helpful and clear in his communication. Pricing was very competitive and the work was done cleanly and efficiently. We're very happy with the service performed and have no reservation in recommending Barrier should you have the need for their services.

Both Wayne Jr. and Wayne Sr. were direct and no nonsense in explaining what needed to get done and cost.  There were no hidden charges or large portions of upfront funds requested.  Job went exactly as described.  Was impressed in thinking through potential options such as converting to natural gas that Wayne Jr. actually recommended an option that would net him less money - a sign of a firm not just looking to milk you for every last penny but looking to do the right thing by their customer.  I recommend them without reservation.

The Task:  Remove my 30+ year oil tank which was emptied 15+ years ago ? except for a few inches of sludge,  reduce my anxiety of finding soil contamination and do it without damaging the root system of a large red maple.
The Solution:  Wayne Jr. came by to explain the job, gave an estimate, explained that 30 year old tanks were well built and most likely would be ok.  Within a few days he got the necessary permits, started the job and hand dug it out without destroying the
roots.
His four person crew was understanding, friendly and hard working.  Wayne was on site for the inspection ? no leakage ? and the hole was filled the next morning.  Final invoice was the same as the estimate.
Barrier is a small, family owned and operated company.  Wayne and his crew adopted me into the family and responded to my fears of major contamination and a dead red maple.

For most folks just about ready to go through this, just a quick  some quick notes to help get you head around this. If you are going to remove a tank and replace it with a new one, figure 4-5 grand as a general price tag.  I also had a leak in my tank  with a small area impacted (about 3 yards of soil needed to be removed) so once that happened the extra work needed to remove and certify with the DEP ran me another 4k.  That is for a MINOR leak.  Last piece of advice, call your insurance agent ahead of time to see if they would cover any of the removal (tank and/or contaminated soil). The contractors are going to ask you that right up front so you can save time already by having this answer so they can get started.
I went through interviewing 2 contractors highly recommended from Angies list. Both were very qualified to do the job but for me I just got a better vibe from Wayne Sr. regarding his communication style, easy demeanor, confidence in the work to be done and being a man of his word. Sometimes it all boils down to who you feel will work with you better on something as critical as removing an oil tank and possible correction of any soil contamination. Wayne also has a lot of experience with tank removals from many gas stations in the area so addressing home removal is much more straightforward and simpler to address all in all.

The other thing Wayne offered which the other contractor did not is the "hand dig" option for another $300. This is basically a manual cut up and removal of the tank without use of an excavator.  For us, given the tank was very close to our foundation and in a middle of a garden this was a nice option to have! Wayne said "you will barely know we were here" and he was right! There was very little disruption to the surrounding area, no excavator tracks digging up the lawn and the guys did a great job removing the azaleas and hosta in nice clumps so we could replant them temporarily till done.
As I noted above, sure enough I had a leak! (d***...) Two small perforation holes in a 25 year old tank that i personally tarred with roofing cement when I first built the house and buried that thing. I was in shock but Wayne and his son Wayne Jr. just gave me a calm feeling that they would handle it and they sure did.  Wayne Sr. decided to try hand digging out the contaminated area and sure enough that was all that was needed (lucky for me). So don't wait! Just get your tank out of the ground asap. Wayne took care of all the paperwork, lab tests, etc. afterward and kept me posted.
The extra plus mark I will give Wayne is coming through for us in fixing up our basement floor what was scratched up from the new tank being dragged over the commercial vinyl tile i installed earlier this year. He was NOT happy seeing that his team did this and immediately said to me "we will fix this". I offered to find a local floor guy to fix the scrapes and rebuff the floor. Wayne agreed andd paid for the ENTIRE basement floor getting rebuffed. No argument, no negotiation. To me that speaks a LOT about the integrity of Wayne and his approach to working with his customers.
Lastly the only B mark I gave the team was around punctuality and follow-up.  I had to make a few calls to Wayne through the project to find out when they would show up next and what next steps were. Wayne mostly answers his calls and if I got his vmail would call me back later in the day. I would suggest you just call every once in awhile to keep things aligned and moving.
Wayne (and Wayne Jr.) -  It was pleasure working with you both!  My friend is already asking me for your number to do his tank next.

They were vey knowledgeable in all the details and procedures for performing a remediation.  Purchasers of our home had the oil tank tested and it did not pass.  It was determined that there was a leak and soil remediation would be necessary. Barrier came in and took care of everything while always being conscious of keeping the costs down.  Tank was in a difficult and hard to reach location but Wayne knew what to do to help keep our costs down. Barrier gave us an estimate and our actual cost was less than what they had estimated.  Barrier knows what they are doing with regards to remediation - don't go with anyone else!

Wayne Jr. was great.  The work was done on time, all the paperwork was filed, and everything went smoothly.  The price was also the best around.  Everything was done in one day, and was very clean.  No oil smell in the house at all.  I would use them again and would definitely recommend them to everyone.
