"Horace from All Plumb Rooter was great! He showed up on time, was knowledgeable and patient. He got the sump pump in the basement working again and installed a faucet fixture on our kitchen sink. Would definitely recommend and use them again. 5-stars!"

"We couldn't finish the tub trim because the tub had to be re-glazed. Mo (the plumber extraordinaire) came back Sunday at 5:00 and installed the shower trim. He was always prompt, professional, and he made everything fit and work. Cross County was a tight run ship. You have Lisa at the home front making calls, responding to calls, and scheduling dates at my convenience and I would definitely recommend them. I think Mo is an excellent plumber, he is great and he makes the company. He is a great communicator and solves problems effectively."

"Dean and his team are very professional. I had them install a sump pump in my basement that flooded Christmas morning. The day after dean came over and gave us a quote and was able to start work immediately. They were extremely fast and efficient. I would highly recommend their work and will use them in the future if needed."

"one of the best experiences I have ever had with a major home project. Was having signs of seepage in my basement and floor was buckling, First met with Bob who evaluated my situation and made recommendation to add additional drainage to my existing system , replace concrete floor and put a vapor barrier along the walls . Estimate was reasonable and flexible. Foreman Gibson arrived on time each day and kept me informed on progress. they were professional, courteous and left area clean at the end of each day. When as issue came up and that was beyond any ones control. Roland the owner came that day and addressed it . near the end Gibson noticed that my existing sub pump was damaged by some debris and replaced it immediately at their expense. My basement is clean and dry ."

"Ed and his team were excellent. Price was very reasonable for the work that was required. They were on time, explained the process as installing to let us know hot water would be turned off, etc. They went over the completed work and cleaned up. Left our garage very clean. Would recommend Orange County Mechanical. They are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable."

"Everything went well with the inspection, but there was no "tune-up" (whatever this was supposed to be). Employee was on time, as well as called 1/2 hour ahead to advise of his arrival time. He was courteous and professional. I certainly hope that my sump pumps continue to operate for several more years, but I would not hesitate to call this company if there is a problem.

Sump Pump Installation FAQs, answered by experts

There are a couple of similar alternatives you may consider for a sewage ejector pump, including a grinder pump or a submersible sump pump. Submersible sump pumps protect your home from flooding from outside water, though, rather than handling wastewater from inside. A grinder pump macerates, or shreds, solid waste before pumping it onward to the sewer line.

Several indicators suggest it's time for a sump pump replacement. A key factor is age; if the pump is over 10 years old, its lifespan is likely ending. Performance issues are also clear signs, such as the pump running constantly, cycling on and off frequently, making unusual noises or vibrations, or failing to function at all. A faulty or burnt-out motor is another definite sign a replacement is needed. Additionally, if you notice any signs of incorrect installation, the pump should be replaced. For a definitive diagnosis, a vetted plumber can assess the pump and confirm whether a replacement is necessary.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

Grinder pumps alone cost $300 on average. The average cost to install a new grinder pump is between $2,000 and $4,000, including the pump and labor. This price can also change based on the exact type of grinder pump you choose, labor costs in your area, and the power system your home currently has.

When a backflow valve fails, wastewater will flow back into your system, contaminating your drinking water. You’ll immediately notice backflow valve failure from a rotten smell and brown water coming from faucets. Get in contact with a septic pro or a plumber immediately if you suspect this has happened to you.
