"My chimney caps needed replacing. My past experience with companies that service fireplaces and chimneys was less than satisfactory. Tommy's was a revelation. Tommy and Michael were on time, courteous and thorough. The work was completed on schedule. The finished work conformed to their written estimate. The price was fair. They were extremely careful not to leave any debris. What more can I say?! First class all the way. Highly recommended."

"Jason showed up within the time frame given. Explained scope of work. Also complimented the work that was performed by another company. Which is very rare. Suggested to check the boiler chimney and cleaned that one also. Removed the damper which most other never do. Cleaned up and was done within an hour."

"Very thorough, informative, and cost-conscious. They called 20 minutes before they arrived and arrived on time. Checked out the fireplace and oil burner chimneys. Provided proposal on repairs and maintenance while also explaining in detail the reasons for the repairs/maintenance. Cost estimates were reasonable.

"Oscar and his crew not only repaired a crack in the fireplace but he found that previous workers from another company didn t connect the attic furnace to the chimney. And that the exhaust pipe for the hot water heater had rusted . So he and Alberto were able to repair everything with absolutely no mess."

"I think they need to plan better for their workmen to get to site. It might be a one off but we had a van come from Bethpage out to Yonkers, when there is more than one office in the NY area...Friendly and professional and thorough. We ended up paying more than we thought but the chimney hadn't been looked at in quite a while by the previous owners, and there was obvious physical deterioration. They sorted everything including exterior brickwork and left the place tidy. I was pleased with the result."

"Luan was extremely thorough and addressed my concerns regarding a leak from our chimney. He took the time to point issues out with the structural work prior to him. He was reasonable with his estimate and I would definitely hire him again . Great work by this gentleman and company."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A chimney without a liner is not recommended. Chimney liners protect the surrounding structure from heat, reducing the risk of fire or structural damage. Just as important, liners prevent carbon monoxide and other toxic gases from leaking into your abode by guiding smoke and gases out more effectively. Remember, installing a liner ensures safety and extends the life of your chimney.

Yes, gas fireplaces can increase your home's value by as much as 12%. They are a sought-after feature because they burn cleaner, provide more warmth, and are more convenient than wood-burning fireplaces. Modern gas inserts can also provide the traditional aesthetic appeal that buyers like. To ensure the highest return on investment, perform regular maintenance and schedule annual professional inspections.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

How you stop your fireplace from smoking depends on the cause. Sometimes it’s as simple as opening the damper. Other times, you need to battle air pressure. The best course of action is to ensure proper ventilation, whether that means opening a door or a window; avoid building a large fire, which produces more smoke; and use seasoned hardwoods, which produce less smoke than other types of wood. If the issue persists, call a pro ASAP.

The most common sign of a carbon monoxide leak is the visible black soot marks on the walls near your wood stove. An excess accumulation of smoke in other rooms of your home could also indicate that your wood burning stove is leaking carbon monoxide. If you notice either of these signs or are still unsure, it’s best to leave the premises and contact your fire department to check your home’s levels.
