"Manny and his team did a fantastic job on staining my deck! Got the old paint off with great detail then stained it for a great finish. When I noticed something that was concerning, he redid the section to make sure I was pleased, no questions asked. He was punctual, kind and fast! Highly recommended and will be using him for other projects. Great experience all around!"

"I had my exterior painted by George last spring and we were very satisfied with his results. My wife loved how the exterior came out. Now we needed a room painted and had George do it for us and again he did a fantastic job. He addressed every item we asked about and the result was another fantastic painting job. P.S. also a great price!!! Would hire him again when I need anything else painted."

"This is our second time working with Kami and the team. They did our sidewalk and masonry repair two years ago. This time they came back to pull down an old mud room and replace it with a beautiful deck, new yard fencing, repaired stairs to basement and new cellar door. They did an extraordinary job for a reasonable price and were super methodical, organized and effective. There is some art also to this work and these folks bring it. We will use them again for sure."

"There were two painters and a worker that did the necessary sweeping, picking up of debris, etc., so that the painters could keep doing the painting. We have a storage loft in the garage that needed to be emptied which was not an easy task as the loft did not allow the men to stand up. One painter had to bend over to push the storage containers to the edge of the loft so that the other could bring them down the ladder. No items were broken including my antique collection of Christmas tree ornaments! They patiently put all the items back in specific areas as I requested. They also needed to remove some shelving to paint the walls and then replace the shelving. The were extremely neat professionals and so very careful of our rugs and furniture for the staining and painting they needed to do in the townhouse. There was a daily visit by the on-site manager who was efficient and pleasant to work with. The owner, Paul develops a full contract so that there a clear agreement as to the work to be done. All details are included. This is a very professional company. As well, they were pleasant and good-natured individuals for the three work days they were here."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.

Always wait until the morning dew has dried before you stain your deck. The stain needs a fully dry surface to sink into.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.
