"Justin did a beautiful job. He was here on a Thursday for an estimate and did the job just two days later (not 2 months...)! I am very happy with the results. I would highly recommend Highland Tree Service for any outdoor tree needs."

"I had already hired Steve to take down the 50' maple in my front yard when I noticed it has shifted and that is was likely a large branch would hit my roof before he was scheduled to be there. I called him on a Saturday, he showed up at 5:00PM and trimmed enough of the tree to protect the house and finished the job the next couple of days, while trying to be quiet because I have a family member that works nights! Tree is down, price was excellent, he was courteous and a pleasure to work with. I will be calling him again for more work later next year."

"I had a great experience with Highland Tree Service. Justin and his crew were professional, arrived on time, and did an excellent job removing two trees and trimming several others on my property. They worked safely, cleaned up all the branches and debris, and left the work area clean when they were finished. Communication with Ashley in the office was excellent from start to finish. She was friendly, responsive, and made the entire process easy. Their pricing was fair, and the level of customer service was outstanding. I highly recommend Highland Tree Service to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality tree removal and tree trimming services."

Tree Service FAQs, answered by experts

The fastest ways to remove a tree stump are by grinding it or burning it.

Stump grinding is often the quickest method, with professionals able to chip away a stump and its roots within a single session. You have the option to hire a professional stump removal service or rent a stump grinder to do it yourself. However, it's important to note that these machines can be large, difficult to transport, and dangerous to operate without prior experience. For safety reasons, hiring a local arborist or landscape specialist is often recommended.

Burning is another fast option. Before you begin, check your local burn laws. The process involves drilling holes into the stump, filling them with vegetable oil, and waiting 24 to 48 hours. Afterward, you can add charcoal bricks to the surface and light the fire, which must be attended at all times.

For a more affordable but much slower alternative, you can use potassium nitrate pellets to accelerate the natural decomposition process. This method typically takes four to six months.

Pruning a tree is a yearly DIY job that involves removing small dead branches, leaves, and blooms to help the tree grow bigger and stronger. You can often complete the job with basic home gardening tools. Trimming a tree, however, removes larger sections to control the direction the tree grows in and protects your home, utility wires, and yard from potentially dangerous branches.

The best tool to cut trees is a chain saw. You can adjust your chain saw to the correct size based on the size of the branches, offering you the fastest and cleanest cut for medium- to large-sized trees. Depending on the type of chainsaw you use, you can cut through larger trees than you would with a more manual tool like an ax.

Rock salt or Epsom salt can damage and kill tree roots over several weeks and can even assist in removing the tree's stump. However, you need to drill holes or cut into the stump and surface tree roots to inject them properly with the salt. Repeat the process every two weeks until the roots visibly rot away.

Only trim palm trees as needed, which is usually about once per year. However, don't stick to that schedule if the palm tree doesn't need it. Avoid trimming palm trees when possible. It’s best to trim palm trees only when you notice a buildup of dead fronds. That said, leave the brown fronds during the dormant season because this organic matter helps protect the tree from the cooler weather.
