"I had already hired Steve to take down the 50' maple in my front yard when I noticed it has shifted and that is was likely a large branch would hit my roof before he was scheduled to be there. I called him on a Saturday, he showed up at 5:00PM and trimmed enough of the tree to protect the house and finished the job the next couple of days, while trying to be quiet because I have a family member that works nights! Tree is down, price was excellent, he was courteous and a pleasure to work with. I will be calling him again for more work later next year."

He Came out a day or two later to give us a estimate and options on 2 really old maple trees and one that had a huge branch come down that left a whole in the tree. "I highly recommend Muolo’s Tree Service for all of your tree or shrubbery needs. I called Paul and he immediately came out and provided a free cost effective estimate for tree removal. Paul took the time to listen to my tree removal needs, discussed options with me as well as additional tree maintenance for my other trees. Paul @ Muolo’s Tree Service will be my only phone call should I have any additional tree removal or maintanence needs. I am incredibly happy with the prompt service and the end result. Thank you !!"

"Nate called within minutes of receiving my Angi request. He stopped by our property and called us back within an hour to give us a quote. He gave us a couple days to seek other quotes and showed both professional persistence and patience. He showed up the following day, stayed in open communication, answering to text messages quickly and efficiently. We met him at the property and did the work expected of him surprisingly quickly. We worried about finding the right person for months, and Nate made it so easy and eased our mind in minutes. I really appreciate the professional and friendly service, and fully insured. We will be recommending him and using him again in the future for any tree removal services, hands down."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.

Ivy eventually kills trees by restricting its growth, blocking sunlight, absorbing nutrients and water from the soil, and weakening the tree. Trees with ivy are more likely to experience diseases, pests, rot, and fungi growth. When ivy weighs down tree branches, the tree is more likely to break during a storm and cause damage.

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.
