"I can't remeber how we found Doug, but we're in the process of converting our home to single floor living and wanted to convert a linen closet to laundry room with machines vertically stacked. Doug came by very promptly and gave us a very fair quote, explained how he'd get it done, and I immedately trusted him. When the time came to do do the work he showed up on time with his crew, who were truly nice and very hardworking guys. they completed the job and were even able to put in some great shelves. They did a GREAT job and I can't recommend them highly enough. By the time it was over they felt like family. We also have to refinish kitchen and dining/living room floors. Before working with Doug we had lined up someone else, but after joining his "family" we got a qoute from Doug and he will be doing it, taking care of moving furniture, scheduling a pod to put it in, and then putting it all back together. Talk about full service! Doug and crew made sure everything was taken care of, made sure we were happy with the job, and went above and beyond what we had expected. Great folks!"

"Project was well timed and progressed seamlessly through various stages - demolition, framing, installation, finish carpentry and painting so that we lacked access to the second floor for only 1 night. Planning including multiple house calls for precise measurements to maximize dimensions, selecting style options and consulting with lumberyard for stair dimensions and details. The crew was experienced, took pride in their work, and did not skimp on quality or details, independent of time."

"We had water damage in our kitchen and dining room from ice dams over the winter. Patrick and Mike installed new insulation, drywall, and reinstalled our kitchen wall cabinets. They also installed new tile on the kitchen walls, installed new light switches, and replaced nozzles for the washing machine water lines. They did an amazing job! Tile looks great. Drywall is seamless and looks better than before. Patrick and Mike were timely, professional, clean, and cared about my property as if it were their own. I highly recommend PG Remodeling. We will be hiring them again in the future for home improvements, plumbing, electrical work, etc."

He did our siding, demo, insulation, drywall, electrical, windows and paint - not only was it done beautifully but it was done timely. I fully recommend Sandiel Construction for your next project."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Modular homes are a type of prefab home. Specifically, manufacturers first build modular homes in sections and then deliver them to the job site. The modules, or sections, are usually at least 70% finished before they arrive on your property.

In comparison, prefab homes arrive in panels or segments, and workers assemble them on-site. Generally speaking, modular homes tend to be more durable, and their consistent construction standards may mean you’ll have an easier time getting conventional home loans.

The most significant expense when building a barndominium is constructing the metal shell, which includes the roof, doors, and windows. Additional exterior components impacting the overall cost include metal siding and the concrete foundation.

A contractor can install your shipping container home in as little as 90 days. This is notably quick compared to a traditional home build, which can take more than a year (providing there aren’t permitting or construction delays that make the wait even longer). For the quickest installation, choose a prefab container home.

One of the best ways to negotiate with a homebuilder is to forgo price reductions. Instead, negotiate over upgrades and incentives, as many builders are more willing to go down that road than to decrease their own fee. Even if they were willing to take a cut, a reputable homebuilder often knows their worth, so a willingness to negotiate could be a red flag. Beyond that, builders are typically willing to negotiate closing costs instead of offering a discount on the base price.

It is a good idea to check in with your local city and state regulations before committing to building a shipping container home no matter where you live. This concept is pretty new across the country, and many places won’t let you build one.

The International Code Council (ICC) offers guidelines for home builders on the safe use of ISO intermodal shipping containers repurposed as building components, which can be helpful to review when planning or designing a shipping container home.
