"My only problem was that the salesman promised parts of the install that weren't in keeping with how the roof was actually installed. (i.e. said would that if temps. were below 40 degrees, the shingles would be kept in a heated van then installed with extra sealant and use of a heat gun) I would wish that the salesmen would know how the work is actually done and not give customer assurances that are not going to be carried through."

"Allstate Roofing did a complete tear-off and installed GAF Timberline HD roofing with GAF DecoTech Solar panels. Joe O. from Allstate along with Karen L. from GAF Energy did a thorough evaluation of our old roof and clearly explained the new roofing and solar options - they took the time to answer our questions and made sure we understood what would be involved, how much it would cost, and which rebates and tax credits we qualified for. Allstate arranged for all the permits and inspections required for the project, so everything was ready when the work began, and all the appropriate inspections were performed as needed. The project took just over 1.5 days to complete. The roofing crew was very careful to do a good job - they were very hard-working, and made sure to thoroughly clean up the site when they were finished. GAF sent experts to train the crew in working to integrate the solar panels into the roof, since this is something relatively new here. We were very impressed with the professionalism of everyone involved in the project, and the care taken to giving us the best possible result (they even made sure we arranged to have our LeafFilter system removed before they came so it wouldn't be damaged by the roof tear-off). Joe O. from Allstate has followed up with us several times since the project was completed to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction and to answer any questions we might have. We are very pleased with the end result of this project. The roof looks great, and it's very nice to not have water dripping into our bedroom when it rains! We are looking forward to seeing how much our electric bill is reduced by using the solar panels. The panels are part of the roof, so they aren't raised above the roof - they look great and fit in well with the roof! Although the project cost was higher than just adding another layer of shingles over the old roof, we believe the value received was well worth the amount we spent. We highly recommend Allstate Roofing to anyone who wants a high quality roof on their home - with the 50 year GAF Golden Pledge warranty, 25 year workmanship warranty, and 25 year warranty on the solar panels, we can enjoy our retirement in this home knowing we will never have to pay for another roof in our lifetime!"

"Mark was very professional and gave a complete explanation of the estimate and work involved. while only one man showed up on the date scheduled for insulation, he completed the exterior walls foam insulation work including the interior basement rim in the day as promised and was very courteous and thorough. I have noticed quite an improvement in the warmth of my home and especially since we have had 2 very cold weeks since Christmas. negative degrees! I am very pleased with the company and the work."

"From the date of the estimate to the actual installation everything was great. Very professional group. Some of the nicest people as far as contractors I have had in my house. Very clean and very polite. All work was done in a professional and clean manner. Arrived on time and finished when they said they would."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Doubling the insulation in your home also doubles the R-value of said insulation. In other words, by adding more insulation, you can reduce the heat loss by half. Most homes benefit from increasing insulation. Older homes, in particular tend to have less insulation as is, so doubling your insulation could drastically reduce your energy bills, keep your home more comfortable, and take the strain off your HVAC system.

No, you should avoid using antifreeze in your outdoor spigot to prevent freezing. Antifreeze can contaminate your water supply and harm the environment. Instead, employ safer and more effective methods for winterizing your spigot, such as draining the spigot and using insulation, to protect it from freezing temperatures.

Radiant barriers and insulation serve different purposes, so one is not inherently better than the other. Radiant barriers reflect radiant heat, helping keep spaces cool, especially in hot climates, while insulation slows heat transfer through conduction. For optimal energy efficiency, it’s best to use both together.

Radiant barriers can enhance the performance of insulation by preventing heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. The choice between them depends on specific climate conditions and the building’s design requirements.

At a minimum, blown-in insulation lasts 20 to 30 years. Cellulose and sheep’s wool come from natural materials, so they likely max out at around 30 years. Fiberglass and rockwool feature artificial materials that boast lengthy lifespans, up to 50 years, or even longer in some cases. As always, this timeline assumes you don’t run into any issues, such as flooding or mold, that shorten the lifespan.

Yes! Outdoor faucet covers work by enclosing the faucet with a thick, insulating material that will keep the faucet warmer than outdoor temperatures. They need to be sealed tightly against the house to work properly, though, so be sure to tighten the rubber strap or drawstring on the insulation cover to best protect your faucets.
