Customers say: True professional

"My kitchen remodel turned out beautifully. The design was unique, thoughtful, and used great colors with attention to detail. The backsplash is amazing and he really went out of his way to help us choose unique touches that made the space feel special. My contractor was conscientious and listened to our needs throughout the process. When there were delays he made up for them with thoughtful upgrades which we truly appreciated. He was professional, pleasant, and collaborative every step of the way. The result is both functional and stunning and I would gladly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work and a contractor who truly cares."

"I Deeply appreciate Doug responding to my complicated gutter repair problem left the unfinished by former roofer contractor. Doug assessed the problem and made the necessary repairs which took more than one visit. He willingly returned to tweak additional issues at no extra cost. I definitely recommend Doug and the work he does. BJM"

The consultation was thorough—they listened to my needs, offered great suggestions, and provided a fair, transparent quote with no hidden surprises. The new windows are stunning, energy-efficient, and have already made a noticeable difference in my home’s comfort. The siding? Customers say: Quick response

"The first time we hired Dan back in 2004, 20 years ago and from that time we would never hire anyone else. Over a few years Dan remodeled all the house, since we cannot afford to do it all at once. Dan's expertise, knowledge, and quality of work is exceptional. Also I want to stress out that Dan is a very decent and intelligent person. Today it is almost impossible to find a contractor like Dan. If you want to see Dan's work search on zillow 144 harvington drive in Rochester. The house was sold in 1 day after the brutal bid war and every potential buyer loved Dan's work. Dan is a real craftsman and we are very happy that met Dan 20 years ago. Also I know many people Dan helped to remodel the house and they were very happy. I hope that Dan stays in business forever and I want to thank him for being Dan and doing wonderful work."

"He always answered my calls or would return them immediately. He went out of his way to do the best work and even did a little extra out of the kindness of his heart. He also made me a porch along with stairs for my deck. Definitely a 5 stars!"

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.
