In the winter of 2025 I had a minor problem with one of the Mitsubishi heat pump system units. The company was quick to troubleshoot the situation. The technicians were courteous, knowledgeable about the system and thorough. It required several visits to diagnose the problem and fix it. The manager, Nick was very responsive to the situation which required bringing out an expert from Mitsubishi. All of this work was covered under my warranty. At minimum, you should plan to have your HVAC system serviced once per year, usually leading into either the summer or winter before it sees heavy usage. Otherwise, repairs will cost an average of $350, and a full HVAC replacement would total $7,500 in most cases, or between $5,000 and $22,000, depending on the type of system. A reputable HVAC repair company can inspect your system and let you know if replacing it would be more cost-effective.

It takes about five to 10 minutes for heat to reach a radiator, then about one hour until the radiator fully heats up a room. The exact duration depends on the size of the room and how far away the radiator is from the boiler heating system. Heating up an entire house could take up to two hours.

One of the most common signs you’re dealing with a bad thermocouple is the pilot light for the water heater will continuously go out. For example, you may light the pilot light and then have to re-light it a few days later. You can also look at the thermocouple for a visual inspection. If you notice discoloration, cracks, holes, or other damage, then you know it needs replacing.

Although boilers can last 15 to 20 years when maintained properly, you may run into some common problems like oil burners and transformers malfunctioning; cracks in the heat exchanger; clogs in the heating oil pump, burner nozzles, or fuel pipes; loose wiring connections; and damaged valves. Many of these problems can be caught early on during annual maintenance services. You might also have an issue with your fuel source if you have a gas or oil boiler. Make sure your other gas appliances are working or that you have oil in your tank.
