"Eric from Vanguard was amazing to work with. My sewage grinder pump completely failed during the holidays. Not only did he text me within minutes of my submission, he came out the next morning, quickly assessed what could be done and replaced my pump the next business day. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient with time. The cost, all in, was well below what I had feared I would need to pay. Additionally, he offered future-looking advice (without any obligation) on things to consider in the future. I recommend Vanguard Plumbing to anyone seeking a plumber who is honest, friendly, efficient, and cost effective."

"Bath Planet came out and remodeled my Bathroom Shower, they were professional, and they did this with in 4 hours, they cleaned up after themselves. We had odd shaped walls but they handled this professionally. Mike the installer was professional, but he did a quality job, he also run into a little plumbing problems, so I had to get my own plumber there to help them out, otherwise everything was good. I am happy so far, it is been 2 weeks of using my new shower and so far so good, very easy cleanup, just wipe down which I Love!!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"I am SO grateful to have found Dave Inclema at D and K Handyman Service through Angie's List. I had a sudden hole eaten through my kitchen ceiling, due to obvious water infiltration. What wasn't obvious was the source. I didn't know if it was a roof/flashing issue due to all the recent winds and rain, or a plumbing issue. I found Dave's name and called at 8:30 in the morning on June 6. After explaining the problem, he told me he was backed up, but could probably check it out on Monday the 10th. I agreed, since I didn't know who else to call. Within the hour, he called me back and said he could swing by, since it was an on-going water issue, to at least see if he could ascertain what the problem was and stop the water leakage before Monday. He was as good as his word and quickly found that I had a crack in my water pipe coming down from my upstairs bathroom. That day, he replaced a section of my water pipe and stopped the leak, which was a huge relief. He said he could come back the following Monday (the 10th) to repair the hole in my kitchen ceiling. I asked him if he could also, at the same time, put in an access door through my bedroom wall to the bathtub plumbing fixtures, in case I had any future problems. On Monday, he came just as he had promised, and in no time completed all the work. He was personable, courteous, efficient, and capable. He not only meticulously cleaned up after himself, but he also willingly got rid of some mouse nests that were up in the ceiling area. (Guess that's another issue for which I'll have to consult Angie's List! :-)) I am happy with Dave's work, and his price was fair. I am even more pleased with his prompt response--he picked up on my first ring and told me he makes a point to answer his phone. I would recommend him to anyone needing help with a handyman issue that they can't personally tackle. I will definitely call him in the future should the need arise.

"The company did the work 4 years ago and it has gone well. We have a very wet basement and the problem 99% gone and when a minor issue pops up they are very responsive and fix the issue. They had to come out twice last week and showed up the day I called. The first time they fixed a switch on a back up sump pump and the second time was to fix and issue cause by another plumber. Josh, who came to our home, was a great help."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can pour water down the toilet to help it flush. For each flush, you’ll need 1 to 2 gallons of water for newer toilets or 3 to 5 gallons of water for older toilets. Rather than dumping the entire bucket in all at once, pour the water in slowly for the best results. If you’re pouring water down the toilet to help it flush after a clog, only use 1 gallon of hot water.

The most common situation in which you should turn off the main water shut-off valve is if there’s a leak in your home, such as in the kitchen or bathroom. Turning off the water supply can prevent further water damage.

You may want to turn off the valve before leaving for an extended period, in case of leaks or pipe bursts while you’re gone. If you’re going to work on plumbing fixtures or appliances, it’s also a good idea to shut off the main valve to ensure no water flow during repairs or installation.

Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

Baking soda and vinegar is a great solution for cleaning your sink drain; in fact, it’s our preferred method. Here’s how to unclog your drain with baking soda and vinegar: Pour in a half cup of baking soda, then 1 cup of white vinegar, and let the two bubble for 15 minutes. Then rinse out with boiling water. This method is much safer than using a chemical drain cleaner gel.

Removing calcium and lime buildup will often fix a clogged faucet head. You can usually remove any buildup with distilled white vinegar or a combination of vinegar, dish soap, and baking soda. Sometimes, the problem is buildup on the aerator, in which case removing and cleaning that part should fix your water flow. However, the design of some aerators makes them difficult to clean. For those, replacing the aerator will get the faucet flowing well again.
